"Was it a mistake? I'm starting to see that perhaps you're more modest than you lead on to originally, Davenport." she smirked back and raised a playful eyebrow at his action of kissing her hand. "You're brave indeed, playing with the embers of Letha like you are. Only befitting for a man walking through those woods alone, I suppose."
She glanced to the side and gave another smirk. "Good. I wasn't in that sort of my anyhow...Friends, you say? Well, who am I to disagree?" she grinned and met his gaze, letting some of her outer walls down.
Elidi had forgotten how nice it was to have fun with someone like this...The back and forth banter was amusing.
"A man of embers..We might get along then, Davenport." she gave a chuckled. "Faith? How does one tempt faith?" she asked curiously, glancing to his ivory gaze.
Damn him and those eyes...White was one of her favourite colours and here he was, with his striking eyes...Not too forget that her attraction didn't just stop at his eyes- but once more these thoughts were kicked to the side. Elidi didn't have the time to worry about such things in her life now. Later on, perhaps, if she still knew him- maybe.
Only maybe.
"Tell me, what have you seen thus far in Letha? I might be able to show you more, if you'd like to sight see more of our natural treasures." she suggested.
Elidi really didn't have much else planned- considering today would have been her final day alive if James hadn't come along.

A few rich houses, one I've been inside. I stole a sizable amount of gems and even a real gold watch. It was quite the load, really. I had warned them I would. I wrote them a note! "I had terrible luck, Miss Arabella. It follows me everywhere I go. Though, there are some things that my bad luck doesn't touch, and that is what I am glad for." He opened the door for her. Inside, the inn was bustling with little activity. There were a few drunks, and even a tale singer.
Though, everything moved slowly, as if time had slowed inside the inn. A woman scrubbed tables rather luxuriously, and not even that vigorously. There was also a man at a bar, taking orders. "I haven't seen very much, a tour is well appreciated on my part. Without a map, I find myself getting rather lost."
Glancing over at her, his eyes appreciated her appearance. Even though he could see perfectly in the dark, it was different to see people in different lights. She truly was beautiful. His fingers itched to reach out and feel her hair, or even brush against the softness of her skin.
His lips remembered well what it was like to suck on her neck. Perhaps he was still craving some blood. Washing away his thoughts, he stepped inside the inn and took a booth that offered more privacy. Pressing his finger to his lips, he flashed her fangs at her with a grin, "Don't tell them what I am. Let them think I am of another race, if you please."
Pausing, Jem pursed his lips for a moment, and then slowly nodded to himself as if making a decision. "You may call me Jem, if you please. Even if it might be a bit improper for acquaintances, but... my last name is rather a sad thing to hear these days."

"Well, if I am to call you Jem you are to call me Elidi. Maybe you'll remember it then." she teased and nodded, "I'll show you around then. You'll get to know the safest places to be and the places that are more fun." she assured as she ran her fingers through her hair, fixing it so that it covered the area the bite wound was located.
She glanced up to his eyes and gave her best smirk, fearlessly asking, "So no ordering an extra bloody steak?"
[erpaderp powerplay ahead so ya'll gonna have to forgive me, okii?]
It was all just playfulness and teasing- and Elidi hoped Jem knew she was kidding. She mentioned nothing more of his race- and even when the server came, perhaps giving Jem an odd look as he ordered nothing and Elidi ordered strawberry yogurt with a side of peaches.
"Hmm...I love yogurt." Elidi mentioned as the server dropped off the plate. "Well..Alright then, Jem. I guess we could meet here tomorrow and I could start showing you around- if you'll still be here, that is. You want to start at..."
.:~AFTER 29 YEARS OF FRIENDSHIP~:.
She was silent as she crept inside the dark house, her red eyes only glowing faintly in the shadows. It was quiet as the night went on in the world outside, people living their daily lives...
It appeared to be empty- but then again, it was in the dead of night. Perhaps he wasn't even home, Elidi guessed. She hadn't spoken too him in a while- mostly she guessed he was busy doing whatever it was Jem did here in Era- but now she'd decided to take it upon herself and visit.
Why else would he have given her his address if he hadn't meant for her to visit?
Elidi scanned the room, eying the decor and style of the home- she wasn't used to being in other lands so it was strange to see the difference in current styles.
Hmm...
Well...She should check to see if he was here before she did anything else. Maybe this would be a happy surprise- and if he wasn't here she could hide and wait until he did come home.
If he was in Era, that was. Otherwise she could be here longer than she expected.

The day had been long. Excruciatingly so because he had woken up early in the day, perhaps not even getting two hours of sleep before he had set out. What a mistake he had made. Terrible, all of it was terrible. What he had done. All because everything seemed so hopeless. He looked up at his dangling porch light, a candle which hadn't been set aflame for a while. Shouldering the door open, he tossed the key to the side. It didn't really matter if he locked it or not. In reality, everyone basically had the same key to every household.
At least it was easy to pick locks.
His head was low as he entered the dark household. He dropped his hat off on the peg and entered the foyer of his small home. It had a quaint living room, family room even, and a kitchen with an attached dining room. Though, most of his rooms were empty. The family room didn't have much furniture within it, and he didn't even have a dining room table. Spending money on such things seemed stupid, especially since he was rarely home to sit on any furniture. And he didn't eat. The kitchen was empty of any food.
Except, things were clean. A woman came every week to clean up the house for him, and she gladly did so. She was a quaint older woman with four children, all of which got fed by the money Jem paid her.
Jem stepped towards the stairway, not expecting anyone to be home. It was a winding staircase that led up to a small hallway that held two rooms and even a bathroom. One bedroom, the master bedroom, was where Jem allowed himself to give himself some luxury. There was a fire place so he wouldn't get cold at night, and a small sitting area. Not to mention books of all kinds, and a dresser that held his clothes. The bed was marvelous and extremely comfy.
If one were to look at the plans of the house, though, they would see that the square feet in the bedroom didn't quite match up as it should. That was because there was a secret area, hidden within the walls. That's were Jem hid his recent thievings, and his mask.
With the world on his shoulders, Jem made his way up the stairs and stepped into his bedroom. With the full intention of taking a bath, he let his jacket drop to the floor and started on his shirt, staring at the floor through a blurring vision.
Gods, he was going to cry again, wasn't he?

Elidi had half expected him to be shocked- to see her and be frozen in the doorway at the very sight of her- but when he shuffled on by her, she couldn't deny her own shock.
He really didn't see her, did he?
Not at all?
Not even a little bit?
...
Really?
Either she was getting really good at this stuff- which was only natural for her race, she guessed, as the Nocvi were incredibly good at stealth. But not this good, surely.-...Or something had to wrong with him. Old age, perhaps? When she had first met him he had mentioned he was old so now he was still pretty much old.
Maybe age did that. Or maybe it was a Ketsuki age thing? She wasn't fully educated in the Ketsuki ways- or educated in anything about them, really. The only one she'd ever really spoken to directly and had considered a friend was Jem and even then some things still confused her. Take the blood thing, for example. Apparently one thing attracted them to blood, which they drank out of their victim.
Or something.
Yeah, it was something like that.
Still made little to no sense to her. All she really understood was blood was food for them and emotion was energy...She guessed. Okay, so maybe she should really sit down with Jem and ask him- but that was a conversation for later..For now he hadn't seen her and that's all she needed to know. Now it was an entirely new game.
Elidi didn't spare much time for herself to be shocked, oh no, not when she could follow him and see what he was going to do. Still keeping in the shadows and quiet she followed him up the stairs, a smirk on her face as he walked toward a bedroom.
She'd gotten a decent look at the house before he'd walked in- from what she could see it didn't look like he often stayed here for long periods of time. No furniture, no food...She was a little disappointed. Perhaps whatever work he did kept him busy? She'd have to ask about that...
As his jacket peeled off and his shirt began to follow- a blush that would be unseen crept up into her face. Perhaps now was as good a time as any to make herself known.
Smirk in place and a playful look painted into her glowing red eyes, she stepped into the light behind Jem, raising an eyebrow and overlooking him quickly as she said: "And I was beginning to think you didn't actually live here."

The shirt hit the floor and he was beginning with the button on his pants when he heard the shift of movement. He dropped to the floor instantly, hearing the woman speak as he grabbed a knife--instinct shot him forward and he grabbed the figure, hissing fiercely as he slammed her against the wall. If everything had worked, he had his knife to her throat, and his fangs extended.
Even his pupils were as thin as a cat's.
Only to slowly revert back to their circular form in shock. "Elidi?" Jem instantly dropped his arm holding the knife. Except, he didn't back away.
Her words finally registered. "And I was beginning to think you didn't actually live here."
A frown pulled his lips for a moment, and he started to ask, "How did you get in?" But then he quickly stopped halfway and glanced down at himself. "Sorry, I'm indecent." Even if he said it with an uncaring tone, but his cheeks were bright red with embarrassment.
"My greatest apologies, Elidi, I never expected you would come here--I was distracted. I wish I had something to offer you--tea. I have a bit of tea." He glanced up at her, his brows pushing together. "I didn't hurt you, did I? I am so sorry..."

It probably would have been a good idea to have slowly introduced herself into the room and his attentions instead of popping out of the shadows- but it was more than a little late for that now.
She really hadn't expected him to do that. When he slammed her against the wall her head bounced slightly, forcing her to blink to regain sight back from the blow- she felt his weight against her, pinning her to the wall- and when her sight cleared up she gave a chuckle.
"You know, I'm not sure if its the cranial damage I just received but your teeth are really sharp and white. Like pointy, deadly little stars." she gave another chuckle as she brought her finger up to tap one of his fangs lightly. "Nice to see you too, friend. I didn't think sneaking in would have warranted this kind of greeting.."
Her red gaze shifted down to his body and examined said 'indecency'- a smirk pulling her lips up devilishly as she slowly dragged her gaze back up to his. "Of course, if you're going to greet me like this every time and you end up looking like that, I'd never mind." she grinned and winked at him playfully. "This isn't the first time a man has held his knife to me- but I must say this has been the most interesting way he's done it. You have an actual knife this time, which is a conflicting - yet strangely welcomed- change. I'd go into detail about the conflict, but well, I'd much rather talk about my excellent abilities in getting in here. I picked the lock and waited- you have a nice home, Jem. I always wondered why you never invited me too it but now I guess I understand..."
"Actually, that was a lie. I don't understand." she shrugged and smirked up at him, her eyes flashing with a great amount of amusement. "But I guessed you wouldn't mind if I dropped by anyways. Tea? I think I'll pass. Nah, I'm not too badly hurt- I'm a lot more sturdy and hardy than I look, dearest Jem." she teased, "I can handle myself and more of what others hold against me. I would like to know, however, if you plan on mounting me to your wall or throwing me around your room some more. Because if that's tonight's game I'm ashamed to report I'll need a little bit of time to prepared myself. That takes a lot of energy- which I have in surplus for such random occasions- but all women need prep time for that kind of fun, my distracted ketsuki friend." she smirked and rested her foot flat against the wall, bending her knee slightly and using one a free hand to twirl some stray strands of her hair.
"What ails you, my friend?" she asked, on a more serious note, her red eyes searching his ivory ones. "Distractions can either be good or bad- and yours doesn't seem to be a good one by the looks of it..."

He felt her eyes on him like hands, scouring his body. His heart jumped a bit, and even a part of him felt proud. He worked hard to get this body, and he hoped she liked it--what was he even thinking!? That was ridiculous! Highly improper, even!
As improper as holding a lady against the wall while being shirtless.
Embarrassed, Jem slowly stepped away from her, his cheeks a brilliant red. "If I didn't have sharp fangs," he muttered almost automatically, "it would hurt more when I bit people." Then, finally, a small smirk quirked his lips as he watched her. "I don't mind that you dropped by." His brows pulled together for a moment, listening to her as she talked.
Her teasing caused him to groan and wipe a hand over his face, to somewhat cover the blush on his face. That was the bad thing about painfully pale skin. He looked like he hadn't seen the sun in seven centuries.
Well, he hadn't.
At her last question, his had dropped and sadness twisted his face. "My dearest apologies again, Elidi. I hadn't meant to go this long without speaking to you. I had sent a letter, did you get it? Anywiggle Anyways, I've been painfully busy..." Jem's voice died and he sighed, sitting on the edge of his bed. "No. Not truly painfully busy. My factory is losing more money than it's gaining, and I am going to either have to find a new way to invest, or figure out a way to fix it." Reaching up, he rubbed his temple and shook his head. "I didn't really tell you..."
When he glanced up at her, his eyes were watery. "Ketsuki... the emotion they feed on, they often feel it at great lengths, or barely feel it at all. When it comes to me, I feel it at great lengths. Let's say, for an example, when you feel happy about something, you're just happy, but when a ketsuki who feeds on happiness gets happy, it's not just happy, they feel euphoric, even at the littlest of things. With me, it's hopelessness."
Jem smiled, but it broke as the tears built even more. "I didn't... I didn't want you to see me like that. I didn't want you to see me so hopeless. I felt it at great lengths... and I still feel it... but because of it I've done something stupid, so... so stupid, Elidi. I am not a man, nor gentleman. I'm horribly stupid."
He rested his head in his hands and closed his eyes. "I'm sorry you have to see me this way..."

"The better to eat you with, my dear." Elidi muttered teasingly once more, raising an eyebrow wither her entire body drenched with amusement at his blushing and his groan.
Ignoring the thoughts she didn't even dare to rethink to clearify them, Elidi simply smirked. "I got tired of waiting around for you to come see me. So here I am." she shrugged and extended her arms around her towards his room as if to emphasize her presence.
"Don't take this burden up the mountain with you," she shook her hand in front of her face as if she was waiving his worries away, "Life often catches up to us and time likes to run faster than we can. Your letter?" Elidi thought for a minute before shaking her head, "No, I hadn't received one. Must still be in the process of arriving. It probably did cross through a few lands, after all."
Her face grew serious as she listened to him- silencing her words in order to give him her full attention, undivided. Her red eyes locked on him as he spoke, as if she could see his words dancing before her. "Problems can be fixed...Where do the issues lie? Perhaps I can be of assistance?" she didn't mention how- but she had something very serious in the works...Helping a friend wouldn't be a bad thing either, considering the line of work she would be going into..
Not that she spoke of it, however.
"Hmm...You know," she started as she walked over to where he sat, standing in front of him with crossed arms, "Someone very dear to me once told me that things aren't always as hopeless as they seem." she gave a gentle smile, her features softening for a moment as she reached forward to sweep some of his messy hair back- if she could- "And you know what? He was right."
Elidi stood up and peered down at him reassuringly as she moved to sit beside him, turning her body towards his as she tucked one leg under the other- letting the non tucked leg hang off the side of the bed. "Come as you are and I will still be your friend, James. Whatever trouble can be fixed, whatever you have done that is stupid can be fixed as well. Things are not forever lost in the darkness, sooner or later there must be a light. Speak to me, let me help you find that light." she said softly, frowning slightly at the sight of the building tears.
As he rested his head she carefully reached out to stroke his head slowly. "I have never seen you so torn up..Would you share this darkness with me so we can get you to the light of this situation?" she asked softly, almost pleading. Seeing her friend like this made her said- she wanted to do everything in her power to help him.

Jem smiled up at her, unable to stop the smile from her repeated words. Though, as she continued on, his face only got darker and he retreated back into his slumped form. Her touch felt good, and comforting. It had been a while since he had been comforted by anyone. Subconsciously, he leaned into her touch. "I can't fix this," his voice was hoarse and a tear escaped. Oh, how he hated hurting innocent people. And now what he had done was worse. Much, much worse.
"I killed her."
He looked up at Elidi, desperate for her to understand how exactly hopeless things were. The back of his mind, the voice that had kept him living this long, told him that she was right. It wasn't as hopeless. "I wanted to start a family, Elidi." Reaching up, he covered his mouth and shook his head. "I wanted a child of my own, to hold... to care for, to love, but Elidi..."
His brows pressed together. "I've never had a lover, or a anyone like that. In fact, I can't have it. I'm constantly moving around, and often suddenly leaving for no absolute reason. That's no space to have someone. On top of that, there's been no woman who has shown interest in me like that..."
Pausing, he glanced up at her and smirked lightly through his watery gaze. "You're the only woman in my life I need, Elidi." Of course, he had teased. His sad look returned. "I was lost... truly lost in my hopelessness. I thought that I would never have a child of my own. And then it occurred to me.."
Jem squeezed his hands tightly and spoke through the sudden hatred that had risen up. For himself. "There are women who work at the factory. Of course, I wouldn't have minded a halfbred child, but those could get messy. Especially since some races don't mix well with others... and there were only a handful of ketsuki women. And some of which I knew were married, but there was one that I hadn't seen pregnant, and I thought... I had thought that she was young, strong..."
Shaking his head, Jem put a hand over his mouth. "I asked her to bear my child for me, and I told her I would pay her."
Jem shook his head, unable to meet Elidi's gaze. "I've never been in bed with a woman before, Elidi. And I never have asked someone that. I scared her. Of course I was too blind to see it then. She complied, and... she bore me a son. But, she died. And..."
The sudden weight of it held him down and he shook his head, crumbling. "She had a child already, Elidi. And a husband, I ruined their lives... the husband killed himself because of it, and the child... the poor child... I never expected my bad luck to extend this much, to hurt others..." He shook his head. "I hurt them, Elidi. I'm terrible... I can't stand myself..."
Pausing, Jem's mouth cracked open and he glanced up at her, smiling ever so lightly. "But I saw him today. Of course, August--that's the child--had tried to murder me, but I saw him. He's so... he's so beautiful. His name is Anderson... he's so beautiful..."
