Shala Daora
shah-la day-or-ah
Also Known As: Snow People
Region of Origin: Calder
Information:
In the deep snowy mountains of Calder, a race thrives among the cold depths of an eternal winter. The Shala Daora are a race born from the coldness of the mountains and they have the ability to live and prosper in the cold depths of a blizzard. The cold is quite comfortable to this race and it is rare that they are ever bothered by the chilling temperatures. They are not affected by the threat of frostbite (or hypothermia), no matter the amount of clothing they wear.
Despite this, the race suffers in hot weather. If they remain hot for too long, they will fall ill because of their inability to handle hot temperatures. Once a daora gets sick, he or she better run back to the cold because the sickness can kill them. Granted, the daora do have the ability to live in hot weather conditions if they are able to keep their bodies cool.
Despite being in such a cold environment, the daora are a very open race. If they find someone in trouble in the mountains, they will often save them. The daora believe in karma and several minor gods under Ren. Most of the race prefers to stay in the mountains, but many will often travel and take part of the political aspect of Calder.
The race lives in many cities "of ice" that dot the mountains. They work in a living system of two ruling leaders in each city. In the inner region of the city lives the leaders, often two males, surrounding them lives the upper class of the city and those who are taught with medical knowledge, on the outer ring of them live those who are less fortunate, and surrounding the who tribe are the warriors and hunters. Women and men are equal. The daora's technology range is equal to the technology range of the syreni.
Appearance:
All daora have horns made of ice. Unlike actual ice, these horns never melt, only when the daora die. The size and shape of the horns depend on how powerful the daora's magic is. They can either be tiny little stubs or huge moose horns. The shape of the horns can either look like a moose or it can look like a gazelle, a goat's horn, and so on. Females usually have smaller horns than males, but this does not make them any less powerful.
The ears of the daora mock deer ears. They are large and round like a deer's. The ears are furry, but the outside color of the ears match the color of the daora's skin, and the inside is a pure white. The tips of the ears may fade into the color of the daora's hair.
Most daora are very tall and slender. They have long legs and slender bodies. Another characteristic of daora is that they have fluffy tails that match the color of their ears. This tail's length can range from being short like a deer's to very long like a snow leopard.
Skin tones of daora tend to be very pale, though it isn't completely rare to have a tan daroa. Their hair ranges from brown tones (from a very light cream to a very dark brown), white to blacks tones, and blue tones (from a very light blue to a very dark blue.)
Average Height: 4'5"-6'5"
Lifespan: 650-720YRS
Magic:
Most daora magic comes from the manipulation of ice and snow. They have the ability to freeze inanimate objects. They can also freeze the unseen water particles in the air and turn it into ice. Some can even make very small amounts of snow or make a snowball appear out of the air. They’d probably be in the Olympics if snowball fights were considered a real sport. Some even have the ability to heal. Even with these incredible magic abilities, not all daora have magic.
History:
As myths go, it is said that the Shala Daora came to be by deer. These deer were said to have been chased into the cold mountains by the hunters in the forests. Though, because the deer were not accustomed to the cold of the mountains, they froze to death. Taking pity on them, the gods of the mountains took their souls and shifted them into hunters themselves that could survive and live in the safety of the cold mountains.
Little history of this mountain dwelling race is known. They have been around for a long time though only recently have they been discovered by the other races of the land, simply because of their nature to live deep within the mountains.
