Long ago, before the lands had formed, there was an island. But it was no ordinary island, no, it was the island that the gods themselves called 'The Land of Beginnings". This land was ruled by a pair of dragon goddesses who came to be known as Elmios, the dragon goddess of the mind and spirit, and Isaos, the dragon goddess of the physical self and emotions. Through their combined efforts the goddesses were able to give the small floating island all manor of non-sentient beings. However, despite its beauty, all was not well on the island. There was no sentient life to speak of upon the surface and the goddesses aimed to fix that. But they could not decide which of their ideals should become the ruling factor of these new beings. Would they be more inclined to listen to their head and make wise decisions or would they let their hearts guide them?
That, my friends, is where we come in.
You see, gods tend to struggle when faced with an impasse. Despite their all knowing and never ending powers they could not settle their only conflict. So, they proposed a solution in order to end their rampages against one another. They would create their own, prototypes of humans and fill them with their own ideals, one group that belonged to the ideals of the mind and spirit and a second group that belonged to emotions and the physical self. These newly formed prototypes would then engage in a deadly race across the island's many planes of existence in order to reach the top where the goddesses resided. Once there, the humanoids would then engage the opposing goddess in a final battle. Which ever faction succeeded in defeating their opposing goddess would become fully human and would go on to populate the island, claiming the island in the name of their own goddess.
General Information
So, as stated above this AU is going to be a death race to the top of the island. You can bring as many characters as you want and you will have full control over them. In order to compensate for the death portion of the race, you may create NPCs to have your characters interact with. However, most of the fighting is focused on battling large numbers of monsters that block each team from advancing. Each plane is also guarded by a boss monster that requires cooperation to defeat. In total, there are nine planes to battle through, excluding the final plane where the goddesses reside.
Battles and Essence
As stated before, the battling is not limited to only monsters so be careful when matching up characters, as they are free to wound and/or kill others. When battling an opponent there is a limit to how long each character can fight. Because they are not fully human they must be careful to never run out of essence energy, which is basically their life-force. When attacking they can use discharge small amounts of that energy in order to make their attacks more powerful. The way they discharge and use the energy depends on the faction. Those in the Isaos faction use their essences to manipulate anything they touch or their own body. Those in the Elmios faction use their essence to manipulate their environment rather than their physical self. Of course, attacks can also cause essence energy to be dispelled. If a character loses all of their essence energy they will die, so it is best to either have characters group up or carry around multiple Essence Gems.
Essence Gems can be found on any plane in caves and can be bought at the numerous vendors that reside in the towns. How much essence the gem gives depends on the color. Red gives the highest, green gives a decent amount, and blue gives the lowest. Essence can also be restored through sleep, but this can leave characters vulnerable to attacks.
Factions
Characters chosen can be placed in either faction, either by choice or by random using this website: www.random.org/ (1-49: Spirit and 50-100: Physical Self). Regardless of which faction you choose, the character will be placed into one of three classes.
Isaos Faction
Weapons Master: As the name suggests, characters in this class specialize in using weapons. Specifically they specialize in the three basic weapons: the sword, the mace, and the axe. These characters can channel their essence into their weapons and fire it off at opponents.
Familiars: Characters in this class tend to have more Essence, but must devote a bit of said Essence to maintaining a familiar. The familiar can be any animal and is usually a faint blue color and see through. They also tend to be quite small, being able to ride on the character's shoulder. The familiar can be attacked, but the character will not lose Essence that is not already invested in the familiar.
Morphs: These characters are part animal, which can be seen in their ears, claws, and tails. All morphs had claws, regardless of their animal. These characters use their Essence to transform between forms. Because of this they have the largest amount of Essence in the Isaos faction.
Elmios Faction
Weapons Master (Ranged): Like the weapons master class in the Isaos faction, these characters specialize in weapons. However, these characters can only use ranger weapons: bows, guns, thrown weapons. Just as the weapons master class focuses their Essence in their weapons, so too can the Ranged class. However they can maintain this attack until it hits their target, or until the object stops moving.
Mage: The characters in this class have control over the elements: fire, water, and earth. They can use their essence to change the environment to benefit them or use it to attack. Depending on the element they can also have said element materialize before them and use it as a projectile to attack with. They have more Essence than the Ranged Weapon Master, but far less than the Telekinetic.
Telekinetic: These characters have the largest Essence energy of all the Elmios faction classes. They can use their telekinesis to move objects or opponents for a short time. They can also fire off psychic waves at the opponent or subject them to literal head splitting pain.
