Irritation sparked in Tonina. "How am I going to help?" She carefully made her way over to Aria, making sure not to hurt any of her wounds. "I don't eat your kind of meat." She hopped up onto Aria's back, wincing lightly. "But I guess I'll go. Aria is better company anyways."
A long sigh left Evariste and his tail flicked, the only other sign of his agitation. Closing his eyes, he turned to inspect his pads. They pounded with heat and pain, but they would heal. The idea of walking a long time yesterday didn't sit well.

Perhaps, if it was alright with Cloudy, perhaps Aria darted away from their shelter before slowing her pace several yards later. Even if they were out hunting, she felt nervous now, worried about whether or not they could find food, about what they would encounter, about their future, about her home and their families. They swirled around like a furious storm, pounding relentlessly against other thought. "Sorry you had to come," she whispered in that small voice of hers. "You don't have to do anything, okay? We could.. look for food you could eat, if you wanted..."
If the two had gone on their way, Garron stationed himself at the entrance of the cavern, keeping a vigilant guard up as he scanned their surroundings. "You should rest, your highness. I don't know how soon they'll return. And I don't know how long we will be able to stay here. It won't do you any good to strain yourself, your highness."

Tonina hummed, "We should stick close to each other. Don't apologize to me. It's Sir Grumps that should be apologizing." Smiling, Tonina patted Aria's head. "I'll try climbing the trees to see if I can see any of your potential victims. Only if you promise that I can groom you later..." Laughing lightly, Tonina gingerly climbed off of Aria and found a good place to carefully climb up. "What if we don't find anything? Can you guys eat leafs?"
Watching Garron closely, Evariste's ears flattened lightly. "Garron," he said lightly, "perhaps it would be best... if you didn't strain yourself either? And.. maybe you shouldn't stand at the cave? I can see that it gives you an eye on anything coming, but... it also allows for others to see that the cave is occupied..." Damn, he was speaking more than usual. It must have been... the fear, the grief, all of it, it--he didn't, couldn't, lose Garron. "If you strained yourself," Evariste said lightly, his ears flattening against his head. He stared at the wall, unsure of all the emotions swirling inside of him. They frightened him. "You... you wouldn't be at your best, and then..." Evariste didn't finish, letting Garron come to that conclusion himself.

"G-groom me?" The tigress startled, her ears burning at the thought. She seemed to shrink in on herself, but watched as Tonina climbed up the tree. "I... I don't think any of us would last very long if we started eating leaves," Aria said quietly, peering up into the tree. "We.. we could start small, see if there's any kind of small animal nearby." But could she really stalk anything in her clunky armor? Could she really catch anything? They would go hungry if she didn't so... so, she had to try.
Despite himself, Garron cracked the smallest of smiles at Evariste's concern. "Your highness, what sort of guard would I be if I couldn't maintain any endurance? Don't worry about me. I will have Aria take the second watch when they return." If they returned, of course. Not that he was thinking, wanting anything bad to happen to them. But it was possible they would run. But Evariste had a point about being too close to the entrance. So he padded back farther into the cave, but not far enough to where to couldn't see anyone approach.

"Good luck with that," Tonina mused. "With that armor on, every mouse from here to the other lands will hear you walking around." She paused and held in a squeal when she came across a delicious goop of sap. Digging her claws into it, she made the tree bleed and began to lick up the sweet flavors. Well, she hadn't exactly planned to find food for herself. She did want to help Aria--but oh, baboon's ass, this sap was so good.
The smile warmed Evariste's ears and he looked elsewhere. Of course. How stupid of him to even question Garron--the bear knew what he was doing, knew more than what Evariste did. Even if he felt foolish, Evariste pushed himself onto his aching paws and made his way over to Garron, so that he could ease himself down beside him. His eyes flickered up towards Garron and he said, quietly, "I have a feeling we won't be eating tonight..." He hoped Garron wouldn't send him back again. First of all, he felt safer closer to Garron, and second, he didn't think he could muster up the strength to move again.

Aria let out a quiet sigh and pushed herself away from the tree, dropping her gaze from Tonina. They had to find food and it was lightly up to her now. She turned to address her armor, knowing the little thief was right. The tigress sat herself and lifted a paw to drag her helmet off. Soon, the rest of her armor fell into place on the ground and she was tempted to ask Tonina not to let her forget the set. Aria padded quietly away from the tree, and she opened her senses to the jungle around them. If Cloudy wants, maybe Aria slipped away for a moment to find food to hunt.
Garron's smile brightened briefly as the prince settled down beside him. "If they don't return with food, I will go out later and do my best to bring some back." His gaze was locked on the jungle outside of the cave. "But it might be difficult to find food. The catastrophe probably drove any living animals away from this area. We'll have to keep moving if we want to find any food."

(Are we going to skip till they come back? XD)
"Don't worry about it," Evariste said quietly. "We'll probably have to find something to subside nutrients," he murmured, mostly to himself. Resting his head on his paws, he watched Garron, glad that the bear didn't send him off. "Plus..." He turned his paw over to inspect his pads. "I rather have you at my side." Gently, he blew air on his paw. "I wish I spent more time exercising with the other guards than working on my studies..."
[SKIP]
As he guessed, even after the rest he had, walking the next day was painful. He almost demanded more rest, but knew that wouldn't help anyone. And he didn't have the nerve to even try, not that any of them would listen. Evariste got really acquainted with the jungle floor, staring down at the dirt underneath his aching pads. He heard Tonina above them. Throughout the day, she had been switching from moving from tree-to-tree to riding on someone's back, mostly Garron's.
Tonina moved ahead, and Evariste sighed as the sound of her progress became fainter and fainter. "She's going to go too far one of these times," Evariste said quietly, to himself. Maybe someone was close enough to hear him. "And she's going to-"
A call shot through the air, from Tonina. Evariste froze for a moment. Was there something there? Should they run? His legs were locked, he couldn't move.
Tonina came back within moments, letting out another call. With ease, she swooped down and dropped onto Garron's back. "Sir Grumps! There's a house!" She said. "I didn't get close enough, but there could be food for you!"
They weren't in danger. Evariste's muscles unfroze and he stared down at the ground, ashamed, though his struggle probably wasn't noticed.
