Emio
em-e-oh
Region of Origin: Eloria
Basic Biology:
Most emio are seen as children to other races. Males to not grow beards (they are unable to) and they are quite short. The tallest emio ever recorded was five feet and five inches. All emio appear light in appearance. Their skin is often pale, and they often will have light colors for hair. It is extremely rare to ever see and emio with dark hair.
The tips of an emio's ear often comes to a point, but their hair can cover their ears. The anatomy of an emio is similar to that of a human. Often an emio's hair is shiny because most of their magic can be found there. Their hair is a bit sensitive, especially if it is pulled on.
Their eyes are often more almond shaped and can be of darker color. The more noble an emio, the darker color of their eyes. After two hundred, around the time most mature, emio sprout wings that look similar to a fairy's or a bug's.
It is extremely rare for an emio to get sick, the older the are. Until emio are two-hundred, they are more likely to diseases and die from sickness. After they are fully mature they gain a defence against such diseases and sicknesses.
Emio don't ever really appear old till the hit their six hundreds, even if they can die around five hundred. It depends on genetics on how old they live.
Lifespan: 550-730YRS
General Behavior:
Most emio can be highly religious. While they don't go around trying to convert other people, they can be a little offended if someone starts talking crap about Altaira. While most emio can be open and friendly, some can be a bit racist, especially the older ones. Emio tend to be very prideful and believe in honor.
If an emio breaks its honor, for an example his hair gets cut off or if he kills another emio, he will often be alienated from the race and seen as nothing better than a slave or a human and often treated that way. It is not too rare that an emio's hair gets cut, which is a great danger to the race. It is improper to touch someone's hair in public, especially one's own.
Usual Habitat:
Most emio find better company with those of their own race. If you find one emio, it's more likely that there is a whole town of them. Emio have their own cities that often will allow other races to live in but it is mostly just emio. They tend to be cautious of other races and somewhat racist.
Aliment:
An emio's diet is similar to that of a humans. They tend to stay away from unhealthy foods, like anything that is fried, and go for more organic foods. As children, emio are not that dependent on the sun. But, the older an emio is, the more important it is that they get a good sunbathing.
Emio are somewhat like plants, they need sun. If an emio goes a long period of time without sun, they often get extremely depressed and become weaker.
Basic Social Structure:
Most of all emio are seen as equal to each other, as long as they still have their powers. Other races are seen as outside of their society, but still seen as lower class than them. If an emio no longer has what the society calls "honor" he or she is cast out or treated as a slave.
Emio are often led by one major leader that can be comparable to a king, then all the other major cities of emio are led by a noble, then below them are lesser nobles. To become the major leader of the race, the emio must be strong and wise, and then he would have to gain support from all houses of nobles. If he gains more than half, the leader and him may have a formal fight, but if he ends up gaining all the houses, he is automatically pointed as leader.
Family Life/Gender Roles:
Male and females are seen as equal in society, if anything women are prized slightly more. It is normal that if the wife gets pregnant, both parents will often take more time off work to raise their children, then when their pregnant again, the oldest sibling takes care of the children and one parent stays home, usually the father. Emios are not considered adults until they are two-hundred, and often won't settle down till they are older than that. In some cases, they settle down earlier.
Procreation:
Reproduction is normal among emio. When a women is pregnant, she often will get depressed a lot more easily and need more sun. Their pregnancy lasts a bit longer, yet the women only really get morning sickness for a couple months. Their pregnancy can last up to a year. Half-breeds with emio are quite likely. Though, most likely they might not get any magic, especially if they cut their hair. Half-breeds are extremely frowned upon.
Childbirth and Childcare:
Children of emio are often quite trouble some. Since they gain their magic quite early, they can be quite a handful. And when they are children they can get sick quite easily. The birth of children is also a bit dangerous, especially if the child is premature, and more often than not a c-section is performed.
Magic and Abilities:
Emio hold light magic. While not all emio are born with spells of light magic, all tend to have the ability to grow wings ones they turn two-hundred. Once the emio has his/her wings, it has the ability to fly. If his/her hair gets cut off, they lose their wings.
Legends and Folklore:
It was said that emio were born from tears of the sun. Their powers held them above these other races and they acted this way. Their arrogance is what caused them trouble. Because of their cruel arrogance, Altaira cast a curse on them: should their hair be cut, they would lose all of their powers. One by one, the cruel masters of the land fell and chaos fell upon the land. The race began to see how unhonorable those who fell acted, they began to believe that those without their powers truly deserved it, or they wouldn't have lost it.
History:
Emios are one of the first original races of Eloria. They once where the major race of Eloria and ruled over the land. Then, as years went on rumors passed of their weakness and their strong empire fell. With the few cities they take hold of, they are few in number. Honor still is extremely important to them and they still stubbornly hold onto the same beliefs.
