Malaki
Mal-ah-key
Also Known As: Riders
Region of Origin: Era
Information:
Malaki are riders, they have large animals that acts both as a partner and a horse. The animal can look about nearly everything and the type of the animal depends on the rider. Malaki find their partner, but their partner is never far from them at birth. The "horse" of the malaki can be born from anything, a cat, or a dog, but then grow up to be something totally different, but it still has to look semi-like the cat or dog. Malaki can't communicate with their partners, but their partners do have an intelligence that is more than your average horse. Malaki can die and their partner can still live on, vice versa. When an animal partner dies, the malaki will start to grow and reach the height of a human. Though if the animal partner is the one that lives and the other dies, the animal turns back to their birth form, unable to shift into their grown form.
There is another aspect to the malaki race that is not as well known. Should the animal partner die, there is a curse placed on the human partner in which, under certain circumstances, causes the human to turn into the animal their deceased partner was. The animal form is usually young, such as a cub or pup. The circumstances that cause the curse to happen vary between malaki. Such examples include a day or night trigger, or coming into contact with a certain person or object.
As living goes, the malaki partner's life span is fully dependent on the life of the human partner. The malaki partner will live as long as his/her human partner does, and when the human partner dies, the malaki partner then turns back into its born form and lives a life as a normal animal. How long they live depends on the life span of the animal that they were born into.
Appearance:
The distinguishing mark about a malaki is that they tend to be small. Their hair color tends to match the fur of their partner, but in some cases this can differ. Other than this, malaki appear to look human, except in a bit of a smaller size. If their partners so happen to die, they more than likely grow. This change height is usually very dramatic.
The malaki partners can look like anything and they tend to be large. Basic forms of the partner is distinguished by what animal they were born into. For an example, if the partner is born as a snake, they do not transform into a huge cat. The animal can shift back into its born form to be less conspicuous. While malaki partners can be any variety of color, colors that are so incredibly unnatural (like a green dog) are impossible.
Average Height: Rider: 4'5"-5'5"
Partner: 5'0"-6'5"
Average Weight: Rider: 95-130
Lifespan: 100-150 YRS
Magic:
None
History:
Malaki started out as a mutation. The very first of the malaki started out with long ears like the niyol, they often worked as cavalry or mail-delivery. Though, because they were often shorter than the average niyol, they were cast out by nearly all the races. This left malaki to either find love with their own mutations, or to default to a human. As years went on, the malaki slowly started looking more human, and by now, they look like human-midgets.
Today, they are more accepted among the other races, but because they are so few, they usually stay in hiding. Some of the malaki families can be traced back to the origins of the face.
Back when the race first started showing up, they relied on each other. Malaki communications were more frequent, and just about every malaki knew every malaki. Because of this, they started their own villages to help the growth of their own race. Among them, they started their own little democracy in hopes of equal rights among all races, starting with a king. As years went on the malaki became more spread out, making it hard for any ruling monarchy.
