Her leg injury and her severe fatigue was the only thing that soothed her anger; none of which that took place three years ago was her fault. But she was fearful of being thrown out again into the fierce blizzards, or thrown into the claws of the monsters. Tikani closed her eyes tightly, trying to calm her fear. "I'm not going to be cast out again, am I?"
"I won't allow that," Sakari muttered. At least for the time being. I can't stop Eska forever. "Just stay here with your little one and I'll be right back." Then maybe the shaman went to follow after the leader if Cloudy wanted. Maybe he limped outside to follow his friend. "Eska," was the only thing he could say as he maybe reached a hand out to rest on the chief's shoulder.

"Perhaps... perhaps I have been too naïve. I should have known..." The leader stared down at the snow then he turned to Sakari, resting his head on his friend's shoulder. "I must seem like a fool." He closed his purple eyes, standing there for a while if Sakari let him. "I'm fine." He answered an unasked question, probably trying to convince himself more than anyone else. Perhaps is he said it enough it would be true.
No. Three years. He was fine. "Before you go on, I won't send that defenceless child to his death. I'm not heartless." He stepped away and watched his hands. "But the tribe. This is breaking protocol, isn't it? But..." His voice lowered to a hush. "Sakari, what do you think I should do?" Eska didn't want to talk about it. He wanted to act like a child--well, like Dusty--and run away.

Despite his friend's mood, Sakari couldn't help but smile lightly, going to pat his friend's shoulder if he could. "Eska, don't ask me that. You know I'm not big on rules, nor protocol." His smile slowly fell and he tried to become serious for his friend. "But... I do think, for you, honoring our laws is important. But what, I wonder, is more important. Will you send a defenseless mother and her infant son out of the village for a crime she did not commit? Or, will you spare them and let them stay?" The shaman pulled away from Eska for a moment, folding his arms across his chest to conserve what little heat the cold hadn't already stole. "Don't let the laws make your decision, let you make the decision."

Eska watched his friends for a few moments before giving a decisive nod. "For now, yes. She may stay with her son. I will decide when the time comes, when both she and her son are healthy once more. But it is a crime she didn't commit." He felt his voice falter, and pain twist his gut. His fingers clenched tightly for a moment till his knuckles turned white. "I suppose," he spoke quietly, watching his shoes in the snow. "I should go tell her now. The people won't be happy... and will you have room to keep her in your hut? Maybe she should be relocated... especially if someone might want to harm her because she was cast out and let back in."

"I can keep her in my hut for now," Sakari said with a nod. "While she and her son recover. But what if someone else needs to be moved in there, needing help? I only have so much room.." He looked down for a moment, rubbing the back of his neck as he tried to thing of a solution. "When the time comes, where will you put her? Any empty huts to move her in? Or... I don't know." There was no way that he would bluntly ask Eska to have her stay with him for a while, but he did think it was the safest idea, should the villagers grow upset with taking an exiled member back in.

Eska felt his throat dry and knot. "No," he spoke quietly. "She can't be moved into an empty hut. There is no way for her to take care of herself. And I don't want to give her to any other person. Times are hard enough as it is, and I am not sure if I trust anyone enough to take care of her..." Then his voice trailed off and he turned to stare at Sakari. He felt his brow furrow as he stared at his friend. "Sakari." His voice had a tight edge to it, as if it were a blade. Yet the blade was not pointed at Sakari, but his own throat. "Sakari, you can't possibly be thinking..." His breath left him.

Now the dear shaman couldn't help but smile softly, finding this all to be quit humorous. "Yes, I am, Eska." He turned away for a moment, but he wasn't thinking. He already knew what had to be done. Sakari turned back to his friend, and even if his smile was hidden, one could easily hear it on his voice. "Eska, please. If you trust no one else then take her in yourself. As I said, she can stay here until she's healthier but she can't stay in my hut for long. Please, have her stay with you and I promise I will take care of her and you won't have to worry. What fool would try something if she's staying with you?"

Eska sucked in a breath then solemnly nodded. "Alright.. she may stay with me." He reached out to clap a hand on his shoulder. "It seems pointless to have you fret over her at my house. If you wished, you could tell me what needs, if she needs it, to be taken care of and how. I will get Dusty to-" His face twisted. "Catch food?" A sigh left him. "I will manage. Should we go confer to her the arrangements? How long will she stay with you?"

"Well, we are talking about her so we might as let her know of the arrangements." Sakari nonchalantly rolled his head back, cracking his neck with always seemed to stiffen while he performed surgeries. "She will be fine in a few days, I'm sure. It's just... her son I'm worried about. Right now, his chances are...." Sakari shrugged and sighed. "I don't even know, Eska. It's too soon to tell." No doctor liked to lose a patient, the same thing applied to a shaman. "But whatever the case, I still won't give up on him.."

"I will not either, Sakari." Eska's voice was softer than he meant it to be, but he waved it off. "I will take care of the boy. I am sure the woman has faith in her son too." The chief took a step forward and did something that he probably hasn't done in a while--he bumped his shoulder, childishly, into Sakari's. "Come on then..." He stepped forward and moved to head back into the hut. "Tikani?" He called into the hut before entering. "We have made a decision on your lodgings, if you don't have any opposition."
