Pas de chance, as the french would say. He wore no key except the ones for the car. The world slowly began to clear and he blinked a few times, and a groan left his lips. His heart rose into his chest and he gasped for breath, but it felt like nothing successfully fed him the oxygen he needed. Anger blinded him and his fangs lengthened. He grabbed Mimi's wrist, and despite his overwhelming fatigue, he squeezed as hard as he could, hoping to break her bones.
He gurgled out some words that were meant to be "Damn bitch", but he hoped his acid hatred was enough to affect her.

Her triumph was short lived when she came up empty handed. A growl of annoyance rolled in her throat and she bit her lip. Escape had seemed so easy, and so close, but now she might as well have be stuck at the bottom of a well with no rope. Despite herself, she reveled in the amount of discomfort Rick was in. Served him right for causing all the pain that he and his partner had inflicted on those caught in their slave trading ploy. However, what Mimi didn't realize was that things were about to get even more painful.
His anger shot up her arm and it felt like liquid fire raced through her veins. She winced, drawing her hand back with a short cry. Unfortunately for her, she was not quick enough to escape his grasp. Mimi was surprised at the sheer amount of pain he was able to inflict despite the fatigue she had just forced onto him. She struggled against his grip, fighting to get away. The movement only served to Rick's benefit as Mimi felt something shift painfully in her wrist. The edges of her vision had become black and she felt herself swaying from the intense pain. She hadn't even realized she was screaming because of the pain, so it was safe to assume she didn't hear Rick's insult.

Fred, upon hearing the screams, shot into the warehouse. "What is happening!?" He ran over to Rick and pulled him up. Rick fell heavily against him. He mumbled a few things to Fred, who nodded dumbly and dragged his friend out of there, staring wide-eyed at Mimi. He kept trying to ask Rick what happened, but the tired man didn't reply.
Zachariah found himself beside Mimi. He hadn't even consciously moved himself, but he was at her side, growls ripping fiercely. "Mimi," he slurred, feeling a wave of weakness, but he fought it and tried to wrap his arms around her. "Mimi, are you okay!? Mimi!" Panic ran through him so quickly he couldn't help it. He wanted to scream, cry and shout. None of those would help, so he tried to gain back his awareness.
The small little girl whose name escaped Cloudy's mind huddled in a corner and started crying.

Tears found their way to her eyes and soon they spilled over her lids. In all that she had experienced, nothing could quite compare to the pain she felt now. Mimi curled around her injured wrist, tenderly nursing it. Her constant rocking only served to worsen the pain and she whimpered quietly, trying her best to calm not only herself but reassure Zachariah. She felt his arms around her and shrank even more. She opened her blurry eyes and stared down at her wrist. From what she could tell, it wasn't broken but the swelling around it suggested it was more than a simple sprain. Not to mention the pain that accompanied it, she was positive that the injury was not a sprain. Dislocation. My wrist is dislocated.
She shakily turned her head so that she could see Zach's face. Pained tears still worked their way out of her eyes and she shivered violently as he body tried to cope with the pain. "M-m-my wr-wr-wrist..." She trailed off, feeling another way of pain set in. She gritted her teeth and curled around her wrist tighter, trying to just block out everything.

Zachariah glanced down at her wrist. After living with a doctor for so long, he quickly was able to assess the damage. The only problem was that he didn't know how to fix it. His stomach rolled, but he tried to squish all the emotions inside of him. Glancing up at Mimi, he watched her with saddened eyes. "Mimi? Try to sleep. Alright?" He leaned closer to her and pressed his lips to hers.
Closing his eyes, he focused on his fatigue, hoping that maybe that Mimi could somehow absorb the feeling and use it to sleep. As soon as she was resting, he would be able to think clearly. Her tears were distracting, and his heart felt fragile, like it could break at any moment. Anger hid beneath his belly. That would come out later, when he was able to deal with it. For now, it rested.

She glanced up from her injured wrist at the sound of her name. She grimaced at the thought of sleeping, especially with the extreme discomfort she was in. But she couldn't find the words to protest. Her voice had all but vanish and her sole focus was on calming the screaming pain in her wrist. Despite her rigid posture, she felt herself relax as his lips connected with hers. She felt herself open up to his emotions and found herself latching on to one in particular, fatigue.
Slowly her body began to relax as she slumped over. She tucked her injured arm under her and laid her head against the floor of the cage. Through her blurry eyes she was able to make out the small form of the girl. She had all but forgotten she was there, in all the commotion. She blinked slowly, feeling sleep rushing up to meet her. "Zach..." Her voice was barely above a whisper, but she hoped he heard her. "We should...comfort the girl."

A sad smile wrapped around Zach's lips. "You need to be comforted too, Mimi. Let me take care of you first, and I promise I will comfort her, alright?" He made his mind sharpen as he thought of what Scott would do. After a few moments of thought, he stripped off his shirt and undershirt. Then, he carefully made a pillow so that she could rest her arm on that. "We're going to need a doctor to relocate the bones, but for now you need to elevate your wrist and to not use it, at all." He pressed his lips together. "I wish I had something cold for you..."
He leaned down and kissed her temple and gently wiped the hair from her face. "No more brave acts, okay? We need to be organized and thing thoroughly, alright?" He spoke quietly, his face twisted with distraught. "I'll figure something out, alright? I will..." Zachariah swallowed thickly and then moved to kiss her nose.

Mimi smiled softly and nodded her head. So much for her brave facade she had tried to pull off. She wasn't used to sitting and waiting for the opportune moment to do things. She made things happen and if they didn't work then she found a way to adjust. It was her 'roll with it' attitude that kept her on her toes, but at the same time often led to situations similar to the one she was in currently. She sighed. If she was as serious as she believed she was about her relationship with Zach, she knew she going to have to control her rash actions.
She grimaced at the thought of popping her wrist back into place. If it hurt that much coming out, she was sure it was going to be hell going back in. At least by now her swelling had numbed some of the pain, so she wasn't exactly keen to have it back in place along with the pain. Despite the minor medical attention Zachariah could give, she was grateful for it. Though she had to avert her eyes as a blush crept over her cheeks from the sight of his bare torso.
She nodded her head numbly. No way was she going pull any more stunts with Rick around. A shiver raced up her spine and she gritted her teeth as she remembered the unnerving sight of his elongated canines. She swallowed thickly as her breath became shallow. The utter power that he possessed was unreal to Mimi and it frightened her to think what he would have done had she not incapacitated him.

Zachariah noted her discomfort, "Hey," he whispered. "Try not to think about it, alright?" He ran his fingers through her hair, trying to ignore the panic he felt. "I'm going to check on the girl. Try and get some rest..." He sighed and glanced away, wondering what race Rick was. He slowly slid away from Mimi and realized how much harder his job would be if the little girl didn't like bare chests.
Staying in a crouch, he carefully crawled over to the girl and lifted his arms. "Hey, hey, everything's okay, alright? Everything-" The girl pushed off from the bars and shot into his embrace. Sobs shook from her and she wailed into his chest. Zachariah teetered backwards and pulled her close. "Shhh, shh...." He gently rubbed her back. "It's okay, it's okay..."
"I-I want to go home," she sobbed. "I want Mommy and Daddy!" She sobbed into his chest, shaking her head.

Mimi glanced up again, her eyes drooping dangerously low now. She offered him a tired smile and let her eyes drop. She may not have let on, but in truth she was exhausted and the added fatigue from Zach had finally caught up with her. Despite her discomfort she felt herself slipping into unconsciousness. Curious of the girl's current situation she opened her eyes a bit. She couldn't help but smile that the girl had not completely shut down. Her eyes drooped once more, but this time her breathing was softer and she drifted off to sleep.
