Zachariah smirked from where he lay, listening to Mimi and Amy. She would be a great mother... He blocked out any thoughts that might follow that because he didn't want to think too far in the future. The two of them just got together, and even if they were close, that didn't mean it was time to start thinking about kids. In fact, it had to be freaky that he was already thinking of something like that. His stomach felt a small quiver of fear. Don't get so attached so fast. Remember what happened last time?
Amy pressed her lips tightly together, trying to think. "Um... Umm... is the thing you're thinking of..." She watched Zachariah sit up and lean against the bars, trying to reach out. "Is it alive?" She looked up at Mimi, her eyes large and full of wonder. "Is it an animal?"

Mimi giggled as she nodded her head. "Yes and yes. See? I told you that you'd get it. You're a clever one." She glanced over at Zachariah, wondering how the plans were coming along. She was almost tempted to ask, but she knew better than to bother him especially since she was almost sure her rashness would get them into trouble again. With a mental sigh she turned back to Amy, enjoying the company of the little girl.
Is this what it feels like to be a mother? To have someone so tiny, rely on you? Her eyes softened and a warmth spread through her body. This has to be it. It's no wonder everyone wants to rush off to be a mother. It's...refreshing. She blinked curiously, staring past Amy, at something in the distance as she thought. Could she ever even bring herself to let another man touch her? Specifically a touch like that? She shuddered to think about it, quickly shoving that thought away. In short, the answer for the meantime was no.

Amy smiled happily, glancing back at Mimi. She then looked back at Zachariah, pursing her lips together in thought. She ran through all the animals she knew in her head and looked up at Mimi. "Is it dog-like? Or... umm, like a cat?" She held out her hand and curled her fingers to make her hand look like a paw. She then curled it and gave a, "mmrrooww!" Giggle filled her chest as she laughed at her interpretation. Zachariah smirked as he walked around. He started playing with the bars on the cage, hoping to find a loose one. He glanced over at the two of them, grinning. Zachariah curled his hands like a cat and made his own cat sound. Amy stared in amazement and then she giggled and clapped her hands, "Again! Again!"
More clapping made Zachariah flinch and he looked up to see Fred. "Ah, yes. Again." He smirked darkly and Zachariah instantly stood up straighter, glowering. Amy squeaked in surprise and hid herself in Mimi's lap. "Give me the bowls."
Zachariah walked over and grabbed the bowls. Carefully, he walked over and held up the bowls. "Can we get a doctor for Mimi?"
Fred opened the door and took the bowls, eying Zachariah. "No. Rick messed up her wrist, which will lower her value, but it will cost more to bring in a doctor. So no."
Zachariah pursed his lips, "I'll make your life easier. I have skills in certain areas that would be seen as very lucrative."
Fred locked his jaw and closed the cage door. "You're trying to barter?"
Zachariah stepped closer and threatened in a low voice, "It's one of my many skills."

Mimi couldn't help but laugh at Amy's imitation of a cat. She nodded her head, wishing she could clap for the girl but instead opted to pat the girl's head. "You got it! I knew you were a sharp one." Her smile only seemed to widened as she watched Zach and Amy interact with one another. Without her permission the thoughts of her as a mother invaded her thoughts again. Only this time, she didn't have much time to dwell on them.
The clapping behind her all but stole her breath away and she quickly scooted away from the bars, with Amy secured safely in her lap. She wrapped her good arm around the girl protectively, feeling a weak growl grow in her chest. Though, her growl was more so one of fear than one of a threat. Mostly, it was fear for the girl but there was also a fear for her own safety. Briefly, the image of Rick's fangs flashed before her eyes and she felt herself stiffen. We need to find a way out of here soon. The longer we're in here the more danger Amy is in.
She swallowed thickly, feeling her mouth suddenly become dry. She pressed her forehead against the top of the girl's head. "No matter what happens, honey, we'll protect you. Okay? We'll keep you safe. I promise."
(Not that I mind all the family bonding stuff, cause it is super cute, but when are Chance, Anna, and Damos supposed to get there? Just curious)

Fred's lips turned into a snarl, and he glared at Zachariah through the bars. A shift of movement caused both the two men to divert their attention to a male standing at the entrance. Rick. He rubbed his temples and slowly pulled himself towards them. His eyes flashed with confusion, and then shut down to emotionless. "Rick?" Fred sounded a bit irritated, but slightly worried. "I told you to stay in the van."
"Yeah, yeah, you were taking too long." Rick crossed his arms, narrowing his gaze. For a moment, he reached up and rubbed his temples, closing his eyes tightly and breathed in tightly.
"This one here looks too smart." Fred jutted his chin towards Zachariah. "Rick, the serum is running out. You need to stay in the car, I mean it."
Rick's eyes flashed with irritation. "Who the hell cares? The boss was suppose to be here a day ago! And he still isn't here. Now we have to feed these guys, and we're running out of food ourselves."
"Would you shut up!?" Fred snapped. "You're giving them clues to escape!"
Amy let out a whimper, closing her eyes tightly. Tears escaped from her eyes. She just wanted her mommy and daddy. She didn't want to be trapped in a scary cage with scary people threatening them and yelling outside the cage. Zachariah was looking beyond irritated. He started to prowl back and forth, but he was also thinking. "Serum?"
"Shut it, pussycat." Fred snarled towards him.

Mimi stroked Amy's head, trying her best to keep the small girl calm. Almost instinctively she kissed the top of the girl's head, more out of comfort than anything else. She bit her lower lip as she stared up at the pair of men, glaring more at Fred than Rick. She really didn't like the odds that had been staked up against them. Though a few things caught her attention. What serum are they talking about?
A small cry of an owl sounded as the white bird swooped in through he entrance. In the bird's talons there was a wrinkled envelope. Almost as soon as the small creature appeared, it disappeared. In the bird's place stood a small boy, his white wings straining to keep him balanced as he landed. He reached out to Rick, offering the envelope to him. "Delivery." He kept his one good eye on the ground, away from either of the two traders. He swallowed thickly and dared to glance up at the newcomers. It had been sometime since the boy had seen a new batch of slaves, though he wasn't particularly interested since new slaves were commonplace. Self-consciously he folded a wing over the right side of his body.
Mimi glanced up at the sound of flapping. She was surprised to see the little bird fly in so...willingly. However, she was more surprised at the sight that greeted her eyes when the owl transformed into a boy. Her heart squeezed painfully and she felt tears burn her eyes. How could a boy that small end up so, disformed and abused? She adverted her eyes and opted to rest her forehead against the top of Amy's head once more.

Rick took the letter, clenching his teeth as he opened it and read it. His eyes flashed as he read the letter, cursing under his breath. "What is it?" Fred raised his brows and neared him. "What did the boss say?" He took the letter from Rick and squinted at it, clenching his jaws as he tried to decipher the coding. Rick rolled his eyes and crossed his arms, waiting impatiently for Fred to finish. After few moments, Fred sighed and gave up the letter. "What does it say?"
"The boss got a flat tire. You need to go pick him up, and to bring an extra wheel." Rick glanced up at him.
"WHAT!?" Fred yelled, throwing his arms through the air. "Is he stupid!? That will at least take a day!" He stormed out of the warehouse, continuing to complain and yell angry things in the air. Rick stared after him and then down at the letter before him.
Swallowing thickly, Rick glanced up at the small boy, wonder filling his eyes. Did the boy know that he was lying?

Fortunately, Aidan knew nothing of Rick's lie. He hadn't dared to even peak at the letter, nor had he been in the room when the boss addressed the letter. No, he was merely the delivery boy and he preferred it that way. It let hims has about as much freedom as any animal slave was allowed to have. Not to mention he rarely got beatings because it was hard to mess up a simple delivery job. Still, running letters between masters was nerve wracking for him since he was required to be within arms-reach of people who could do serious harm if they wanted to.
Mindful of that fact, he ventured to glance up at Rick. He was extra cautious not to make any sort of eye contact. Though he felt the older man's eyes on him and he felt his body stiffen. His wings fluttered behind him nervously. "Any requests...?" His voice was barely above a whisper and he flinched at the sound of his own voice. Knowing better than to mumble around his superiors, he cleared his throat and tried again. "Any requests to deliver?" Despite his effort, his second attempt wasn't much better.

The serum hummed in his veins and for a moment took over him, blocking out his sense of anything. He blinked for a few times, confused, and then gained his foothold again. His lips turned into a sneer and he stared at the boy. "You should go to the boss and get the s-" Get the serum. Get it. I must have it, to fix this. I must fix this. I need-
Rick let out a gasp, glad that Fred had left. He glanced at the boy, sweat forming on his forehead at the effort to not say that. He needed to keep out of the serum. "Stay with the prisoners," he said with a great strain, trying to think of what the boy should do. "And I will watch for Fred..." He walked over to a cage and grasped onto the metal, making sure that it wasn't Mimi's cage. "Or maybe... maybe--" Go get the serum. Come on, just let him get the serum. It's easier that way. The old commands still hummed through him, he wanted to, his bones wanted to follow them.
He couldn't. "Boy," Rick turned to look at the misshaped child. "Do you have an collar? Any tracking device? Anything that makes you return, or do the masters just trust you will return?" He didn't think the boy had a strong enough will to be under the serum.

Aidan glanced up, confused, but he stayed silent awaiting a command. His wings flexed behind him, but that was about the only movement from the small boy. Get what from the boss? Maybe I should ask. He opened his mouth to ask, but he froze. He was sure that Rick wasn't done talking. The threat of a beating for interrupting a superior kept him quiet and he quickly closed his mouth.
The boy almost sighed with relief as he was given an order. He tentatively made his way over to the cage, staring down at his feet. He gave Rick a rather large girth as he passed, in case the man snapped and tried to make a grab for him. He briefly stared into the cage, curious as to what the prisoners actually looked like. His eye fell on the small girl in the Mimi's arms. His wings fluttered a bit and he let out a sigh. He glanced back at Rick, hearing what sounded like the continuation of a request. Aidan turned around fully, having his back turned to Zachariah and the others.
He flinched, hearing Rick call to him. "Yessir?" He stared down at his feet, awaiting the question. "Nosir, I do not. I..." He fidgeted with his feet, burying the toes of his worn out shoes into the dirt floor. "I will not run. I do not wish to lose another limb." He gestured to his shoulder. "This is what happens when a slave tries to escape."
Mimi glanced up, listening to their exchange. She bit her lower lip, feeling sadness and pity well up in the pit of her stomach for this small boy. She glanced down at Amy. We won't let that happen to this little girl. We promised to take her back to her parents. Mimi glanced up at Zach, trying to gesture him over as discretely as she could. Though she kept a weary eye on Rick, still feeling a sense of fear nip at the back of her mind.
