Eska felt relieved under the pain that twisted his lungs--the relief came from the fact that the shaman couldn't see his face twist with it. Instead, Eska didn't touch the subject. No. His father... his father was nothing like the man that he had thought him to be. He had thought his father was better than this. At the moment, Eska wasn't sure who changed.
"I prefer you over your father," Eska said lightly, pulling off his mask and setting it to the side to give Sakari a small smile. "At least your guard is amiable. Sakari... you don't deserve this." He wished for a moment that he had his mask back on because his brows fell together in a mix of sorrow and anger.
"I feel helpless. I'm supposed to be the chief, yet... yet I feel as if this tribe is falling apart at the seems, and..." A sigh left Eska and he shook his head. "I can help, Sakari. I just... I don't really know what is his things, versus yours."

"It certainly is with your father as an elder," Sakari grumbled. "He'll have all the young people exiled before he's satisfied." The shaman didn't address Eska's earlier words, finding no point in discussing it anymore. It was done, but he would still resent having a guard to watch him as if he were nothing but a mere child. "There's not much here that belongs to him, just (maybe? idk) those clothes and (insert other belongings here) that he set over there. I want Pana to have his belongings as soon as possible, only because I don't know what Dusty and Kiya plan on doing, where they plan on going."
Sakari's attention fell away from Eska for a moment as he continued feeling his leg for any kind of internal problem, be that muscle or bone. But not that herbs would help. Maybe they would help with pain, but he would have to rely on using his magic. That, and Sakari hated using his supplies on himself. "Eska, if you could, later, just visit Amorak and tell him I'll need his help with gathering herbs a lot more now since my other assistant is gone.."

Eska carefully gathered the things and folded them up, packing things that would be useful and leaving out things that wouldn't. After he finished packing everything up, he looked over at Sakari and he walked over to him, sitting down beside him. He wrapped an arm around Sakari, searching his eyes. "Sakari..." He said softly, his brows pulling together. "We both are losing our brothers... We're not along in that aspect. I'll get Amorak for you, so you can talk to him, but... Please take care of your leg. Pana asked me to make sure you take care of yourself, and I will. I hope I can be a better friend to you, Sakari. I'll always be here, and you can ask for me at any moment, even in the midst of the night." He rested his head on Sakari's shoulder.
"How is your leg? Do you need any help?" Eska asked quietly, wishing he could fix everything.

Sakari was a bit taken aback when Eska leaned on him like that, though it was more of the surprise factor. "I don't think I'll be able to walk, let alone stand. So," he started with a small smirk. "The more slaves I have, the better. And of course Pana told you to take care of me even though I would always have to tell him the same.." The shaman let out a sigh and laid down, resting on his back, closing his eyes because he was tired and agitated. "We didn't lose our brothers, Eska. They're still alive. And if those three work together, they'll stay like that. If they're smart, maybe they'll leave the mountains." It was unheard of, probably to leave the mountains. Not many have done so, excluding trade caravans. But those usually met half way. "Only because there's nothing else here for them."

Eska let out a breath, sorrow falling heavily on his shoulders. The medicine man might say that they weren't gone, but they were. Out of reach. Granted, they weren't gone like Eska's betrothal was, but they were still untouchable. "I could always advise them to get off the mountain." He reached up and rubbed his face. "But snow leopards are meant for that--the snow. I'm not sure how well they will.." Instead of continuing on with his doubts, he instead reached over and pinched Sakari's nose. "Stop being such a downer, sheesh, Sakari." He slowly pushed himself up. "Alright, Kar, I'll go get you a slave, and then I'm off. Don't worry, I won't be obvious when carrying Pana's things..." He put on his mask. "I am assuming as soon as I leave, your babysitter is going to pop back in."

"Will you please take her with you?" Sakari snapped, suddenly angered upon remembering he had a guard to watch him. "I don't need some useless warrior poking their nose where it doesn't belong. You should tell the elders to just have Amorak stay with me instead. He'll be more help." The shaman let out a heavy sigh and since his mask was probably off now and he was laying down, he lifted his hands to cover his face. "I'm sorry, Eska.. Thank you for the help. You should get going so you can get home to your wife and that small child.." He lifted his hands, peering up at his friend. "Speaking of which, how have the two been doing?" He meant health wise, Sakari was too busy to ponder anything else. "The boy's been fine, right? Healthy?"

Eska smiled gently down at Sakari. He decided it was best not to point out what the elders might say--that Amorak is still considered a child and definitely not guard-worthy. "No problem Sakari. And yes, they're fine. Little Anyu is as energetic as ever, giving his mother a run. I think she's been alright too. No need to worry about me. You have enough to worry about." He reached over and grabbed Sakari's mask before tossing it to him. "Put that on. You wouldn't want your baby-sitter to be mad with you." For a moment, Eska paused and wondered if it would help at all. Gently, Eska said, "If she is who I think she is... I think she isn't as bad as you think. In fact, I might remember a point in time when Dusty was fighting with her. She seems... well, energetic."
Shaking his head, Eska headed towards the door. "I'll visit you tomorrow." If Sakari didn't say anything, then Eska left the hut. He and the guard shared a nod before he headed off to Amorak and his brother's hut. After placing Pana's pack aside in the darkness by their hut, he stepped up to the door and knocked.
Melina waited only a few moments before stepping into the hut, shivering. "Holy frozen balls, it's cold outside." She muttered to herself and shivered, hugging herself and trying to retain some warmth. She went over to Sakari's fire and sat by it, rocking and trying to warm herself.

Sakari scrambled to put his mask on before Melina came in and succeeded, but remained on the floor. He gritted his teeth, biting back the urge to snap at the warrior. But he had to lay out the rules. "Listen," he muttered with a less than enthusiastic voice, managing to sit himself up. "While you're here watching me, I have a few rules of my own. First, don't touch anything. These herbs save lives and I can assure you can find the means to end yours," Sakari couldn't fight off the snarl. "Second, I will find a place for you to sleep and you must stay there. Space in here is sparse and I need every bit of it for people who come in. And third, I will not tolerate any sass from you. You're here to watch and I'm here to work. Do we have an understanding?" He was in a foul mood, if that was hard to pick up on. After some sleep and busy work to keep him occupied the next day, Sakari would probably be back to normal.
It took a moment or two before anyone answered the door, perhaps because the big brother was putting his little brother's mask on and cute things. A moment later, the door opened as Saghani appeared. He dipped his head in greeting before casting a glance over his shoulder. "Amo, the chief's here to see you." Saghani wasn't dumb. It hadn't taken him long after his family slowly disappeared to discover that no one wanted anything to do with him. Saghani turned his attention back to Eska. "Would you like to come in, chief?"

Melina stared at Sakari, and she pressed her lips into a tight line. Indignation flared inside her chest, making her sit up straighter. Just then, though, someone growled at the entrance of the hut. A breath left Melina and she turned to see her father looming in the entrance of the hut. "How dare you speak to my baby that way!"
"Daddy-"
"I didn't know the shaman was another version of Ikiaq-"
"Dad.
"Sakari, my daughter isn't here by choice! I swear on my mother's grave you will be sorry if she ever comes to me crying. My daughter is a smart, fierce young woman who is here doing her duty! She has no choice to be here! Nor is she stupid, so don't speak to her that way!" Desna's voice was most likely deep. Really deep. Imagine a booming voice.
"Ugh. Daaaad!"
"Sakari, I remember a time when you were very keen on being a warrior. Did that make you stupid? Less of a person? No. Treat my daughter with respect. You need to learn-"
"Dad!" Melina finally shouted. "Dad, stop. He lost someone he is close to, and he's a grump. Leave him alone."
"My sweet little baby I just want to protect you! Why would they make you live with a man?! Especially one you aren't married, and one that isn't married!" He put down a basket that contained an abundance of food items and he went over to Melina, wrapping her in his arms. "Especially one with no manners! Treating his guest in such a horrid way! Maybe I should go to the elders and assign him that guard that you say is really gassy."
Melina was giggling now, "Dad, stop. I'm fine…"
"I won't leave until Sakari apologizes."
That is so cute. Cloudy approves.
Amorak slowly moved to stand, curiously peering at the door. Eska smiled lightly under his mask. "I would love to come in an visit, but I am really busy at the moment. I am not sure if you have heard or not, but Pana is gone and Sakari is being guarded." Eska shook his head. "This is a very vague explanation, but-"
Amorak's head poked out from behind his brother, his eyes full of sorrow and sympathy. "Pana is gone…?" Maybe, just maybe he knew how close the two were.
"Yes…" Eska said softly. "Sakari is going to need a lot of help now. He is practically immobile now because his leg hurts. I came here to inform you that Sakari requests your presence."
Amorak let out a sad breath and slowly nodded.
Eska paused for a few moments and then glanced over at Saghani. "If you two ever wanted, you could come have dinner with us. I think I am going to try and plan a few dinners with Sakari, if either of us aren't too busy." He slowly stepped back and nodded. "That's all for now."

If Sakari wasn't angry before, he was certainly fuming now. His face was red with anger and he turned his back to the two of them. The shaman sucked in a tight breath, starting to angrily sort through his herbs. He had to somehow manage to figure out what he needed to restock before Amorak arrived. Gods, he already missed Pana. "I know, I've had a lot of people remind me about who I used to be today. But if you're going to the elders, you might as well tell them to assign Saghani to my guard." Then maybe I'd be able to get some work done!
"I'm sorry," the shaman muttered quietly, glancing over his shoulder at the two. "Alright, I'm sorry. Now please.. I have to get these herbs sorted."
"Oh," Saghani let out a breath, a bit surprised at the offer. "I guess we'll see if we can take you up on that offer sometime." It didn't take long to extinguish the bitter flame that burned through Saghani for a moment, the one that always asked, 'where had everyone been when Amorak was gone?' He knew why now, and he had already had ten years to contemplate it. "Thank you, chief. I'll send him over to the shaman as soon as he's ready. Have a good one." If Eska had nothing else to say, then the warrior started to shut the door.
The older brother glanced back at his little brother, his softening gaze hidden under his mask. "You should go see what the shaman, wants, alright? And if he needs something outside of the village, make sure you come get me." The thought of losing Amorak again caused more pain than being alone had ever done.
