Clyde's eyes were drawn from the menu over to Edwin, and a hint of a smile twitched his lips. "Bleh." To play up the "richness", he made his voice more nasally, "I was have afraid to sit down, thinking the poor would rub off on me. No matter, I'll go take a bath in my gold and diamond studded bathtub, and then take a swim in my money pool. I'll feel much better after that." Biting back a real smile, Clyde shook his head. "Since my dear Edwin thought that I have had too much wine, I suppose I'll get something fun. Like a milkshake." His eyes lifted up to Anderson and he slyly said, "You should order off something for the children's menu and refer to Edwin as your father. Maybe we can get a children's discount."
Ah, Damien. A name. August wanted to press and ask Elaine more about Damien, but he doubted that would cheer her up. "A proposal?" August smiled lightly. Not a wedding? They had a child before marriage? "Do you remember anything small? Sometimes for me it's the small stuff that I miss. Like a nervous habit, or a small joke that no one else would get." Gently, he rested his head against hers. "It gets easier, Elaine. I promise..."

"Hmm?" Anderson muttered, glancing up at Clyde over the menu. But when he processed Clyde's words, he rolled his eyes like an impatient teenager. "Honestly, Clyde, you're about seven years older than me." The ketsuki smirked lightly as he went back to reading the menu. "Edwin's the one who should order off the kid's menu. It's super expensive here, so try to save as much as you can."
"I'll be the only one eating though," Edwin added, glancing briefly down at his menu before looking back up at the two. He lifted his only hand to rub the back of his head, a slight smile on his face as he thought about the time that maybe Richard had brought him to the small diner.
"But how does it get better?" Elaine croaked, pulling her head away so she could look up at her relative. "How? I'm alone. Is that supposed to get better?"

Clyde had to bite back a laugh, and could barely smother a smile. His eyes flickered over to Edwin. "Are we not allowed to order food because we're ketsuki. I thought Richard raised you better than to be racist." He looked over and Anderson and said, "And it's maturity, Anderson, that makes you the child." So much for being mature. He was being quite an immature brat himself. A breath left Clyde, as close to a laugh as he would get. Or so he told himself. "It's been some time since I've eaten out like this. Have either of you been in places like this before?"
August searched Elaine's eyes and he said, "Little Elaine, that's where you are wrong. You are not alone." He cupped her face to look into her eyes, his face becoming serious. "You might think so, but you must understand. The only person isolating you is you. You have your parents, you have me, your grandfather, and even Clyde if you'll take him. And when you choose to go back to the others, you'll have them, too." Quietly, August added, "I know that's nothing like having someone special to you by your side, but soon you'll realize there is more than that. And that's how it gets better." He let go of Elaine and stepped away, giving her room.

"Richard (maybe) used to take me to this place all the time," Edwin said, absentmindedly playing with the straw container. "Most of the time it was on our way home from your place. But if you're talking about eating out in general, I do all the time." The malaki laughed. "I can't cook at all, so it's my only option besides take out."
"Mm, I've passed by this place before on my walks, but I've never been in. I should bring August here sometime," Anderson mused. "It's a cute little place." He suddenly perked up, a smile curling his lips as he thought of something. "Clyde, you should really make a habit of taking us out to eat like this every once in a while. It would be fun~ But I know how much you love your solitude.."
If Cloudy wants, maybe the waitress/waiter came back and took their orders. In lazy detail, Edwin ordered himself a meal and Anderson ordered a simple fountain drink for himself.
"I don't know you," she protested weakly. "I don't know any of you. My parents are too busy with two new kids, and ever since Damien left... I-I was too busy with-with our daughter to spend time with the others. I've always been a sad little child, August. That's never going to change..."

Clyde got himself a milkshake. His heart twinged at thinking of little sad Edwin with his father probably trying to cheer him up. He nearly smiled at the thought and glanced at Anderson. His first words brushed by him like normal--he wanted to take his brother here. But then Anderson said us, and it made Clyde's heart beat faster. Even then his heart felt fragile and hopeful at the same time. He studied his hands and looked up at Anderson. "Going out doesn't sound too bad. Most of the reason I preferred to stay indoors is because I was still recovering."
Shrugging, Clyde glanced away and quietly said, "Plus the company isn't that bad, either." He hoped his blush wasn't that obvious. "Some of these desserts almost make me wish I could taste." He picked up the dessert menu, using it to hide some of his awkwardness.
August looked into her eyes and gave her a soft. "The fun part about not knowing anyone is getting to know them, little Elaine." He wanted to pull her in for another hug but as Elaine pointed out: they didn't know one another. "I am only guessing that before Damien left, you spent time with the others. No doubt they are still your friends. Now, your parents," a smirk twitched August's lips. "Parents are tricky things, Elaine, but I can guarantee you one thing. They love you." He held out a hand for her to take if she wished. "It doesn't matter how busy they are. They'll have time for you. Last but not least, I know I am a stranger to you, Elaine, but I am here for you. Would you like to get to know me a bit better?"

Perhaps, because both Anderson and Edwin had spent much of their time with Clyde, perhaps the two noticed the blush, but said nothing. Instead, they cast smiles over at one another before going back to whatever it was they were doing before. "You really are missing out," Edwin mused. "There's a bakery nearby with the best sweets and deserts." Oh, what a tease. "Richard took me there every once in a while."
Elaine was tempted to say no, that she preferred her solitude. No one needed to know her. There wasn't much to know or to say. But enough sadness and loneliness had clawed at her heart as of late. Maybe to have someone.. a friend to confide in wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. The young ketsuki wrapped her arms around her chest, her light red gaze falling to the ground. "Okay," she finally answered in a quiet voice. "Just as long as you don't look at me with the same disinterest and disgust Kenneth did.."

Clyde rolled his eyes. "Does he not take you anymore? That might explain why you lost all your baby fat..." So cruel. He yawned into his hand, putting the dessert menu back. "I honestly can't remember what food tastes like." He glanced up at Anderson. "Do you? The food I had was probably bland anyways. I can't imagine myself having a sweet tooth. I'm probably lactose intolerant with my luck." His lips twitched lightly. "How are you two, by the way?"
Anger rolled through August and he replied, "Kenneth ran away when he was young, crushed his father's heart, and when he saw his father again, he slapped him. You can say Kenneth is misguided, undisciplined, and-" He cut himself off, giving Elaine a small smile. "But that's just me being protective over my brother. Elaine, family is extremely important to me. I'll never look at you with disgust or disinterest. Kenneth is misguided, as I said, so don't let him bother you." He looked ahead of him. Perhaps there was a small lake or pond that August had taken Elaine to. "Though as mad as I can get at Kenneth, I feel guilty. I slapped him, which wasn't very.. mature of me."

"Clyde, have you always been this quizzical?" Anderson mused. "Or are you just trying to distract yourself from the awful fact that you left your house and you're frightened of the outside world?" The ketsuki laughed softly. "One question at a time~" His smile dropped. "No, I don't really remember what food tasted like, if you wanted to know." We never had a lot of it. "And as for how I'm doing today? Oh, just ducky~ But I'm glad you asked me to join you two. It's nice to leave your stuffy home every once in a while." As Anderson laughed, Edwin couldn't help but join in.
"I'm fine. Thanks for asking," Edwin said with a smile. "How are you, Clyde?"
Elaine had been distracted by the sight of the lake/pond, but her lips twitched slightly upon registering August's words. Oh, the thought of Kenneth getting slapped like a little bitch was truly a wonderful thing. She regretted not being able to see that. "Why feel guilty?" She snorted. "He deserved a good slap. He deserves much more than that if you ask me.."

Clyde rolled his eyes as he felt a blush pluck his cheeks, yet again. Why did speaking to Anderson, and he supposed Edwin, make him so nervous? He searched Anderson's eyes when he answered the question, trying to make sure he was telling the truth. Ignoring their laughter, he glanced at Edwin and then gave a small shrug. "I'm fine. I feel pressured to keep the conversation going--which is curious. And that's why I'm being so quizzical."
Perhaps then, if Dina wants, the water gave Andy his fountain drink, and Clyde his milkshake. She probably told Edwin his food would be there in a bit.
Clyde took a sip of his milkshake and then groaned, "What is it called? When your head hurts after drinking something cold?" He reached up to hold his head.
A chuckle fell from August's lips and he shook his head. "I feel guilty because Kenneth is my nephew. It's not my place to slap him." Even if he did hurt August. His eyes flickered over to Elaine and he searched her gaze for a few moments before looking back at the pond. "I would love to paint this place. Doesn't it inspire you? Do you do anything for a living? I suppose not. Your parents probably have some financial support from Kenneth, and probably their own jobs."

"Us simple folk refer to that as a brain freeze," Edwin snickered. "You're supposed to take it slow, Clyde." He took a sip out of his water he had ordered, his golden gaze flickering over to Anderson, who took a cautious sip of his pop.
The ketsuki laughed after he set his drink down. "Ugh, I can't taste it. But it's definitely carbonated, in case you were wondering." He glanced up at Clyde, smirking. It was scary sometimes how similar Anderson resembled his son. Or, in reality, how much Kenneth resembled his father. "Clyde, you look like a small child sitting there with your milkshake. Would you like me to ask for some sprinkles~? Or maybe some candy~"
Since August was admiring the view, Elaine couldn't help but sit. She folded her legs, bringing them close to her chest as she rested her chin on her knees. "My parents work for the Resistance. I don't have any passions or aspirations myself." There was a pause as she wiped away any stray tears with her sleeve. "Kaleb paints too... Have you worked on anything with him yet?"
