Alec stayed standing, looking from one to the other. He couldn't help but feel a bite of hurt that dug deeply into his heart. How come Patch still felt like he had to hide things from him? Confusion pushed Alec's brows together and he glanced towards the other who had shown some obvious dislike towards him. "Met... met him?"
Robert watched his brother closely before glancing over at Alec. "It's nothing important. We met first, technically. I found out your father was dead, left, and then Pat came back for you. For some goddamned reason." He leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms. "You're an annoying shit."
Blinking, Alec watched Robert before glancing over at Patch. His brows came together and his mouth moved, but he didn't know what to say. Breathing out through his nose, Alec pushed his chair in and with some bite said, "Well, you two probably want to catch up."
"See? Look at him. The world revolves around him. How can you stand that, Pat?" Robert sighed.
"I-I'm not-" Alec started, his cheeks flaming red. Angry, he shot Patch a glance and grumbled, "I can see why you never introduced us."

Patch shot his brother an angry glare before he stepped towards Alec. It was obvious the little isoke was angry. And this issue needed to be resolved before Kenneth caught wind of it. Only because it was always Patch's fault. "Alec? Can I talk to you for a moment?" He shot another glance at his brother. "Alone?" Patch wasn't sure if Alec would follow, but he stepped away from the table to somewhere around the corner. Gods, he was going to have to tell Alec he was human, wasn't he? How would Alec feel? Would he be disgusted with him? At that moment, it was hard to look like he didn't care

Despite being angry, despite not doing anything wrong, Alec felt that he was in trouble. The blush on his face strengthened with shame and he shuffled after Patch. In a meek voice he said, "I-I, well, um," he didn't know what to say. Swallowing, he quietly said, "Nice weather." He glanced behind his shoulder and said, "Remember how Damien always changed subjects? Any time we started talking about… or just… when he was nervous. And..." Alec finally shut up and closed his mouth.

"You shouldn't be nervous," Patch mused lightly before his smile fell away. He became serious, solemn and he spoke in a quiet voice. "Alec, listen. I know you're mad because I didn't tell you about my brother. But you have to understand that we've had to keep a lot of things secret in our lives. I.. couldn't tell you that my parents who recently passed were actually my adopted parents." Like Alec, his own face heated with shame, as if it had been his own fault. Like he had been taught when he was younger. Humans deserve what they get, they said. "That.. that my real parents were slaves. Or that I was." His Adams apple bobbed. "Because I'm a human, Alec."

Blinking away excess water in his eyes, Alec reached up to take a hold of Patch's hands and held them to his chest. "Patch, I know." His brows came together and he searched his eyes. "It's never made any difference to me--I…" He took in a breath. "I am sorry that happened to you," his voice cracked. "And I understand that you feel the need to be cautious. I just… I want you to know that it doesn't make any difference to me. I... I assumed, because I've met other humans before you--and... I mean, my dad hired them. I've heard bad experiences--" He shook his head and he said, "Thank you. Thank you for trusting me enough to tell me. You can trust me, Patch." A sad smile spread Alec's lips. "You're such an incredible person. Your race would never change that."

"To some people, it would change a lot," Patch muttered under his breath. But he looked relieved all the same. Perhaps, to be cute, Patch tried collecting Alec in his arms, tried to pull him close. "But.. thank you for accepting me, and understanding. Just remember I don't keep things from you intentionally. It's just how we were raised." Perhaps, he pulled away to take Alec's hand into his own, if he was able to. "Come on, let's go back to the table so we can get you some food."

The hug made Alec so incredibly happy. If his happiness showed on his skin, he would be glowing bright than the sun. His arms wrapped tightly around Patch, and almost was disappointed when Patch pulled away. Only to feel immediately happy when Patch grabbed his hand.
Dang. Alec couldn't help the large, cheeky grin lifted his lips. "Patch, if... if anyone ever harasses you, or something, I... I mean, I'm small, I can't do much. But maybe I can threaten them. With Kenneth's name or something." He squeezed Patch's hand. "I... a big part of what my dad wanted was that he wanted the humans who worked with him to feel safe--I... I want you to feel safe too. And..." Alec looked up at him. "I really wish you met him, Patch." He shook his head and meekly said, "Are you sure you don't want to just sit and talk with your brother? He... doesn't seem to like me much."

Despite himself, Patch found his smile growing at Alec's words. While he never felt unsafe with the isoke, it felt great to have gotten all of that out in the open. He didn't have to hide himself from Alec anymore. "Yeah, we should probably go sit with him, shouldn't we? We can have lunch with him. I promise you don't have to talk to him. Just eat." His smile fell for a moment. "Alec? Just.. please don't say anything to Kenneth about me. Not that you have, I just.." Patch stifled a sigh. "I don't feel like being sold back into slavery."

The mere idea made Alec come to a dead stop. He stared up at Patch, bewildered for a few seconds. He was shaking his head. "No! I wouldn't--never. And--" Alec took in a breath. "No! If Kenneth ever tried, ever even thought--" He gently started pulling Patch along. "If he would even do that, then he's not who I thought he was. Patch, I know... I know Kenneth isn't... he isn't the best type of person to those who are outside of his circle, but he wouldn't do that." Alec glanced up at Patch. "And if I'm wrong, then he's not the type of person I want to be around."

"Are you two done kissing over there?" Robert called. "Service is here."

Don't worry, Alec. Kenneth would never do that. He would just glare and hiss from afar.
Patch let out a sigh, deciding it was best to drop the subject. "Come on," he said quietly. If they were at the table now, Patch sat down in his seat and ordered. The waiter jotted down the order before turning away and Patch finally turned his attention to his brother. "So, what are you doing around here? Are you working nearby?"
