A long sigh left Robert and he shook his head. "That's a... long story. A lot has happened with me too, Pat." Movement caught his eye and he glanced up. "Oh. Look, Pat. Here comes your girlfriend." Robbie's brows shot up. "That's a mean look if I ever got one."
"Tch," Hiro muttered under his breath, his ears lowering. It wasn't often that Hiro stood up from his spot and moved. Even less often that he went in search for his old companions to speak to them. But he found himself making his way towards them. Because sooner or later, Patch was going to realize that Hiro overheard. Or sooner or later, Hiro was going to have to tell him.
But that was the thing. Race didn't matter to Hiro. He was a dirty-blooded hobo. There was nothing for him to be proud of.
With a sigh, he slid down into a seat, perhaps next to Patch, and looked at him. He didn't say anything, and instead raised his brows. He'd let Patch come to his own conclusions.
Alec let out a shocked breath and said, "Oh."

Patch was slow to catch on and he stared up at Hiro with a curious gaze. The latter's visits were likely rare. And then realization slowly dawned over the human. His brows slid up and he was quick to hide his shame in his palms. "Shit. You heard all of that, didn't you?" Patch looked back up at Hiro and he couldn't decide what to feel. Uncertainty was high up on that list. "I'm.. sorry you had to hear that but.. I guess Alec needed to know. Um.." The human rubbed the back of his neck. "I'm not sure how you feel about it, but just please don't tell anyone."

Hiro's ear lowered again, and his brows came together. "You're sorry-" He began and shook his head. Leaning forward, Hiro searched Patch's eyes. "Hey. I'm half-blooded. And homeless. I can't even read and spell most things. Look, don't… don't worry. I am not going to tell anyone-"
"Wait. They don't already know?" Robert cut in. "How… how the hell not? Do they just think you're anigma? Or?" He let out a laugh. "Shit, Pat! You're good."
Hiro took in a breath and shook his head. "I am saying is I don't care. I'm not going to tell anyone. I didn't want you realizing I overheard later and not being able to sleep because of it, or something." A wry smile twitched his lips. "I've overheard worse things, Patch." He shuddered and said, "So much worse things can not be unheard."

Patch couldn't help the sheepish smile that curled his gaze and he ducked his head for a moment. "Thanks, Hiro. That really means a lot." His hazel gaze lifted once again. "It probably sucks, right? Hearing all this shit and being some secret keeper? I guess I owe you." Patch shrugged his shoulders. "I'll buy you a strawberry shake sometime."
His attention turned to his brother a second later and his voice lowered. "I had to, Robbie. A lot of these people are from noble families. I don't know how they raise their kids and-" Even he was having a hard time believing his own excuses. "I.. I trust these people. Just not enough to tell them that."
Gay and human? Kenneth would kill him.

A wide smile pulled Hiro's lips and he ducked his head for a moment. It was a good feeling when someone remembered your favorite flavor--even if you didn't really have any flavor.
Robert raised a slow brow and he shook his head. "It's smart of you, Patch. I would be... surprised if you decided to trust all of them." His eyes slid to Alec before he said. "I have to say, I'm surprised that you're sleeping with a twelve-year-old."
"Sleeping with...?" Alec's brows came together, as he repeated that under his breath. He couldn't figure out what might be wrong with that. "I'm not twelve. I'm-"
"You look twelve. And act twelve," Robert said dryly.
(Optional: )
Hiro raised his hands, "I think I'll get going," he glanced towards Patch. "Um. I know... we don't really talk--" Shaking his head, Hiro blushed and stood. "Yeah. Um. Yeah. See you."

Before Patch could say goodbye to Hiro, his cheeks had turned such a vibrant shade of red, that he found the words slip away from him. Patch's surprised gaze rested on his brother and he struggled to form words without stuttering. "I-I- Rob. I don't sleep with him." He took a sip of his water and his blush began to recede. "You understand that I wouldn't ever be able to do anything like that. Not after that. I'm not up for that."

Robert relaxed--and he hadn't realized how tense he had been. He breathed a bit easier and gave his brother a small smile, releasing his face from its usual harshness. "Oh. I... I don't know why I thought..." He reached across the table to lay a hand over Patch's. "So, then... what is..." His eyes flickered over to Alec. "Never mind. We'll discuss that later." He pulled back his hand and asked, "So, what are you up to? You're babysitting, but other than that, what about engineering? How... how have you been doing since they passed?" They, as in their parents. Robert had a hard time dealing with that. He didn't doubt that Patch had a hard time too.

Patch had certainly had a hard time when their adopted parents had died, but he preferred the details of how hard their deaths had hit him to remain under wraps. "I'm still working for Alec here, but we haven't been doing a lot of building lately. We've been traveling around for a while. But we still come up with plans." His gaze flickered over to Alec. "But I think you were going to convince Kenneth that we should head back to Calder, right?"

A bright smile pulled on Alec's lips, and he nodded. "Yeah! It's... tough, though." He looked down at his lap, his bright smile dulling slightly. "He's been... testy lately. I don't really know why. Even Kaleb seems annoyed with him at times."
"Why does it matter who you two parade around with?" Robert asked, sounding bored. "Patch, aren't you eighteen yet?"
"It's... safer," Alec ventured.
"Safer? Safer when Patch doesn't trust any of," Robert wiped around the air.
Alec grabbed onto Patch's hand and squeezed. "Because we have friends here. And people we love."
"'We'?" Robert laughed without humor. His eyes slid to Patch. "Uh huh. So, basically, you're babysitting with no benefits-"
"He's not babysitting me," Alec grumbled tightly under his breath, his cheeks filling with warmth.
"As long as Patch is happy." Robert sighed, and he eyed the prices on a left-over menu. "Are you happy?" Robert glanced up at Patch.

"If I wasn't, I wouldn't be here," Patch offered with a light smile. He tried squeezing Alec's hand in return, perhaps as a way of trying to tell Alec not to let Robert get to him. "And I have friends here. Some I think you'd like," but not enough to trust them with the truth. Patch couldn't help but wonder.. Was he truly a good friend if he couldn't trust Jozi or Seth? "There's just.. some I'm worried about. Like Kenneth for example." Perhaps it was time for the attention to shift away from him. Patch thought so. "So, what do you plan on doing now?" The human suddenly had an idea. "Actually, would you want to come back to the warehouse with us? I'm sure there's plenty for you to help with, especially building."
