Perhaps it surprised Hiro, or maybe it didn't, but Elizabeth did not falter at the mention of her father's recent aliment. "Sometimes my dearest father likes to pretend he's a grown up," she sighed heavily. "So I guess just let him pay for his own decisions." A soft smile curled her lips. "Thank you for telling me. I know, it sounds cruel, but I assume he's alright now. August and Anderson will take care of him." She paused for a moment, deciding to steer the topic away from Kenneth. "How are Aeryn and Austin, and little Mithai?" Her smile grew playful. "Did you guys absorb anyone else into your group?"
Elaine could only hold her father's gaze for a moment before her head fell. "I don't know, I haven't been a very good friend," she said quietly. Though, Elaine figured Hiro could hear her no matter how quiet her voice was. "You shouldn't hide yourself away and ignore your friends." Not wanting to dwell on her own sad thoughts, the ketsuki looked back up at Charles and offered him a small smile. Small, but a smile nonetheless. "But you're right, Dad. I'll try to 0.ask for help."

Hiro's ear flickered as he tried to listen for them. He couldn't discern any of the noises towards those specific children. He stepped back and sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. A headache thrummed at the base of his skull. "Um. The kids, last time I knew of, were with your uncle and Seth. Clyde, Anderson, and August joined us. We found Damien and Elijah, as you know." His eyes flickered towards Elaine, trying not to react at her words. Except guilt pressed his shoulders and he played with a fraying thread on his shirt. "There's so much going on it's harder to listen, if... that makes any sense." He let out a dry chuckle and rubbed his neck. "It's too much for me." His shy gaze flickered up to her, somewhat wounded.
(Would his honestly surprise Noah?)
"Did my dear beautiful friend say help?" Rylan stepped up from behind them. A grin dominated his face, and he threw his arms around Elaine. "Oh, Lainey! It's been so long!" He sighed and tucked her head under his chin. "I've been so lonely~" He sang. Despite the cheeriness of his tone, he spoke the truth.
"Is it the new fad to wear sunglasses inside?" Charles plucked the hot-pink pair off of Rylan's face and winced visibly. "Oh, Gods. Put it back on. Better yet, Blondie, put on a mask."
"Ha, ha." Rylan took the sunglasses from him and tucked them into his pocket. Bruises formed underneath his eyes from lack of sleep, and making his eyes hollower than usual. "Not everyone can be as beautiful as sweet Elaine~ Or her mother for that fact, hello Lizzy!" Rylan called to her with a wave.
Charles laid an offended hand on his chest. "And not I?"

(Surprise him, yeah, but I think he'd be proud that Hiro is comfortable enough to tell others how he feels.)
"I understand," Elizabeth said softly, her smile even softer. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of Noah watching Hiro curiously, surprised even. He hadn't expected Hiro to surrender so much information. "I thank you for keeping an ear out but please remember to take breaks. Don't work yourself into a sensory overload." The older ketsuki took a step back from Hiro and motioned towards the others. "Shall we go overand visit?"
But Elaine wasn't as amused as her father. She looked worried, a hint of sadness tugging at her features and she attempted to rest a hand against his cheek. "Ry, you look awful, sick even?" Her hands fell to rest on his shoulders. "Are you alright? How have you been?" Maybe, if gorgeous wants, maybe Elaine finally returned Rylan's hug, attempted to wrap her arms around him. No doubt they had texted and called each other but seeing Rylan in person again meant more than a text or a call.

Hiro gave Noah a glance, quietly asking him if he was okay with that. Cloudy is going to powerplay and guess that Noah was. Stepping after Elizabeth, Hiro watched both Rylan and Elaine.
"Better now that I've seen your face," Rylan mused, his lips curling. He melted into Elaine's hold and held the back of her head. "I'm fine. I promise."
"It's not only you he's been giving a scare," Hiro said wryly as soon as he got close enough. "The Daniels, his children, have been so worried about their mother."
"Oh, look! It's the purple-haired wonder! Finally come out of your cave then?" Rylan shot him a smirk and half-stepped away to look at him. "I'm not their mother." He kept an arm around Elaine's waist, for comfort, and studied both Noah and Hiro closely. "Welcome aboard the McCarther train. I see you're here to visit your mother, hmm?"
Hiro's skin colored and he frowned deeply. "Anyways. Uh, h-hey. Elaine." (optional: ) His eyes dropped and he let out a long breath. "Um." He wondered if he should say it here, or not. He wondered if he had the guts to do it another time. "I just... wanted to let you know that friendship is kind of a two way road, so, I... if you wanted to..."
"I think he's trying to say he wants to be friends with you," Rylan whispered, although loudly. His lips pulled into a bright smile.
"Uh. Basically." Hiro shifted and stared at Noah's feet.

Elaine felt as shy as Hiro and she shifted her feet uncomfortably. Not that his words made her uncomfortable, but gods, she suddenly felt younger and smaller than any of them. "I...," she started, hesitantly, her cheeks heating. But she found the courage to lift her gaze to Hiro. "Um, thanks, Hiro. I appreciate the offer." The ketsuki offered Hiro a sheepish smile, leaning into Rylan's hold. "I'll try to be a better friend too. It's nice to see you again."
Meanwhile, Elizabeth stepped into place beside her husband, trying to drape her arm around his shoulder just because she could. "Well, Charles, I think our job here is done," she said quietly as to not disturb the others. "We've successfully dropped off our daughter and made sure she's with our friends. Shall we depart from here before my father rises up from the grave to harass us?"

Kazbir (a.k.a. Hiro) glanced up at Elaine and he hesitated, wanting to tell her that it wasn't necessarily her fault. Then he heard Elizabeth's words. "You're already leaving?" He asked, louder and more startled than he meant to. His skin colored again and he ducked his head, watching both Elizabeth's and Charles' feet. "I guess you have real jobs, and Elaine's siblings to look after. That was... a stupid question."
A warm smile filled Charles' lips. "Lizzy, dear. Do you happen to have Hiro's phone number? It might be a good idea to keep in touch."
(I am not sure if we are still going to have Charles contact August, or if that had already happened, so, optional: )
"There was a single stop I wanted to make," Charles looked his wife in the eye. "But that I can do alone, and you can hold the taxi for me. It will be a quite trip. Although terrifying, but I believe I can do it." He smiled brightly.
(If it already happened: )
"Elaine, my sweet little bat," Charles cooed. He stepped away from Elizabeth to wrap his arms around his daughter. "I'll miss you dearly. I always do." His eyes flickered up to Rylan. "You better take good care of her, or I'll lock you away until I'm too old to remember you~"
Rylan's lips thinned and he placed a quick kiss to Elaine's head. "I'll treat her like precious glass."

(So with this post, Charles probably hasn't asked August yet.)
Upon Hiro's outburst, Elizabeth's lips curled into that familiar smirk she shared with her father, a smirk most McCarthers shared. Only, hers was soft and playful, her eyes shining at Hiro. "Well, while Charles is busy, perhaps I could treat you all to some lunch?"
Elaine, who was already embarrassed over being dropped off by her parents, inwardly cringed at the thought of a lunch. Why couldn't they just leave already? "Mom," she said sheepishly. "No one here even eats besides Rylan and Noah."
Elizabeth shrugged her shoulders. "That may be, but someone has to feed them. It's not like Kenneth will take care of them, so I will." Her gaze flickered to Hiro. "And we can spend some time together before Charles and I leave. How does that sound?"
(And if you want, we could rp Charles and August. I could have Andy there, maybe he has Kenneth and August in one room to take care of them. But Kenneth will probably be sleeping so Charles doesn't have to deal with that.)

A shamed blush reddened Kazbir's cheeks and he stared down at his feet. He glanced over at Noah, always finding comfort in his friend's face. "Um. Yeah. Good. Noah needs to eat." He let out a sigh and his ears lowered.
"Lunch sounds good," Rylan said and poked Elaine's stomach. "We can share something. Or you can drink my blood while I munch on fries. We can freak out the waiter." His lips curled and pulled his sunglasses back on. Stepping near Kazbir, he placed a hand on his head and pushed a wave of confidence over him. Kazbir flinched. "Don't be so embarrassed. Elaine, you shouldn't be either. I love Mommy McCarther. Some of us," Rylan pointed towards himself, "never had any parents. So let me leech off of you and pretend." He threw his head back and laughed.
Kazbir frowned and stepped near to Noah. "It's because you're too ass crazy for anyone to want as a kid."
"That hurts." Rylan held his hands to his chest and pouted. "Well! Shall we go?"
(skippy a little to get Charles to the door)
After some grand time in the elevator, and asking someone where August was, Charles ended up at the door. He felt a small wave of anxiety and pressed his lips together into a thin line. You're alright, Charles. Not all McCarthers are Kenneth. You've spoken to August before, and he was very kind. Taking in a deep breath he drummed his knuckles on the door and almost wished his wife came up with him.

"Yes, of course. There's a small diner this way." Elizabeth then stepped away from Kazbir and attempted to usher the small group towards where the diner was.
Elaine fell into step beside Rylan, her gaze dragging across the ground. She decided to move away from Rylan's previous points, decided to change the subject. "How has everyone been?" She asked quietly. "And how have you been?"
Meanwhile Noah stepped closer to his friend, a small smile lifting his face. He wasn't sure how to tell Kazbir that he was proud of him for not shying away from having lunch with everyone, for wanting to spend time with Elizabeth. "Should I text your dad and let him know where we'll be?"
A moment later, Anderson appeared on the other side of the door as he peaked out into the hall. Surprise perked the ketsuki's brow. "Charles? I.. wasn't expecting to see you any time soon." He stepped aside and pulled open the door. "Mm, sorry," he said, smiling. "I didn't mean to make it sound bad. How have you been? Would you like to come in? August is inside the room." His smile grew. "Kenneth is too, but with the medication he took, I doubt he'll be awake any time soon to cause you problems."

Rylan hooked his arm around Elaine's and smiled gently at her. "Elaine, I think you've already asked. Everyone is in order. Everyone is the same. I have a lot of gossip, and since everyone here will hear of it anyways, I'm going to say it. Clyde was poisoned, so he's a child now. And officially adopted by the Old Ones. Seth's been talking to himself in his room and refuses to answer my questions. He's so darling. And Chase and Mar have been taking things slowly, as usual. Nothing new with them. Alec is himself, a bright little thing full of energy. Any information about Mathias and Corps you probably don't care about. And Noah's been a little antsy of late, but seems as if things are all in order again." Rylan shot the dear a warm smile. "And Hiro loves him all the same."
"Wow." Hiro rolled his eyes. "A plus." Then he glanced at Noah. "He probably doesn't care."
"Text him," Rylan said, glancing at Noah. "Hiro, have any fun gossip?"
((Optional: "Sam tried burping the ABC's and Scott snorted milk laughing, then Elliot whined for an hour because the milk got in his hair. Stuff like that.)) Nothing fun." Hiro shrugged. "Oh," Hiro glanced at Elaine. "Sam and Scott had a huge fight. It was weird."
"'It was weird,'" Rylan repeated under his breath. "Probably one of the saddest, heart wrenching things I've ever had to see."
Charles tried not to seem as startled or fearful as he felt. There were times when he spoke with Anderson, sure. And of course August. But still the two men were large mysteries to him, and he's learned to be cautious of McCarthers. "Excuse me for intruding," he said, and had to fight back the urge to make a joke. "I just... have something to ask August. I'm sorry for--oh I already apologized for intruding, haven't I?" He let out a laugh and his gut twisted. This brings me back to the old days when I tried courting Lizzy and made an absolute fool of myself. At least it was charming to her. "I think I overheard something about something." Charles let out another laugh, "My, I'm very eloquent today, aren't I?"
