"I-" Seraphina struggled to find the words to explain herself. It wasn't like she was keeping a secret! It was just something she didn't enjoy flaunting to the whole world! Yet Rucian had gone and opened his big mouth about it.
Fantastic.
"Well, yes, we would-" actually, that didn't sound half bad. With their combined talents, a new song made of two different ones might sound perfect- she was getting ahead of herself.
Hearing Calix's faux pain and joke, Seraphina couldn't help but roll her eyes, "Contrary to what Rucian has lead you to assume- it's not something I talk about to others often. Or at all." she glared at Rucian who simply offered a small smile as he stabbed a piece of meat with his fork and popped it into his mouth.
"But..Uh, sure. I'd love to play after dinner." she scratched the back of her head nervously and turned toward Rucian with a tight smile. "And after that, I'd really love to talk to you, lover." her voice was tight with annoyance.
"Mmm. If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were threatening me." Rucian offered a tiny smile back, his face painted in the signature empty calmness he always wore but his voice had been laced with a playful tone.
Turning toward Calix, Rucian stabbed another piece of meat with his fork, his emerald eyes almost soothingly numb. "What do you know how to play?"

Calix glanced up, just in time to see Rucian's smile. His gut jumped, and he felt like he had seen something personal, so he dipped down his head again and took more bites out of his dinner, eating all the healthy foods he could. At least he didn't feel as nervous anymore. It wasn't like the first time that he has seen the two, which was a big improvement.
He still squirmed when Rucian looked at him. Calix looked up at Rucian, awkwardly swallowing his semi-chewed food--he was too afraid to make the king wait for his answer. He choked a bit because it hurt, and then forced himself to answer, "I would like to think that there is a lot I can play, but again, I am a bit self-taught, so I am not the best. I could definitely use some improvement, I think." A blush pressed his cheeks.
An inner war fought inside of him. He felt an extreme need to call him "my liege", but he was too embarrassed to bring up that he broke the record. Quietly, Calix named off a few of the songs he knew. "I enjoy [instert name song here] the most." Only because it sounds as lonely as me, ha ha. He thought dryly.

SKIPITTY SKIP SKIP
Rucian, sitting at the small table he loved, waited as the two younger Verengeith set up to play. He watched with interest, his eyes moving from Calix to Seraphina. This should be interesting. It had been a while since he was able to convince Seraphina to play- and now getting to hear her play with someone else- it would be a treat.
"Why don't we just play freestyle? Just play what comes to mind." Seraphina suggested quietly as she set up her violin, placing it on her shoulder and brushing her hair aside. "You can start, if you want."

Calix nervously pulled his own violin out. He did the same, tucking it under his chin. "Start?" A breath left him and he closed his eyes, trying to think of a song that he knew every note to. Even if he was surrounded by company--the king! He should be happy about that--he still felt a bit lonely. Watching Rucian and Seraphina made him want to find that, too. Slowly, Calix began his song. It was a scratchy start because he was nervous, but then the notes smoothed out into a song.

Once Calix began, Seraphina listened to the tune, waiting for a moment to join in. After a few seconds she formed some notes to complement his song and begun to play along, closing her eyes as well. She felt the music, the swell sound of loneliness and sadness in each string, the hum of the wood on her shoulder and chin, tucked between her bones. For a moment she left her body, playing the violin with her soul, as if she had been created by these notes. Calix's playing was wonderful to work with- it left spots open but still maintained its own crowd, dividing the attention equally, combining the two songs into a whole new original song- and for a moment it was the dancing of souls with notes in one room. Or that's how Seraphina felt it was, at least.
While they played, Rucian listened, enjoying the songs very much and watching the two play. If he hadn't kept his eyes open, he wouldn't have noticed their newest guest- Khalida. The red headed Verengeith walked in silently and waited to the side, a little bit away from Rucian. She bowed her head in recognition and Rucian bowed his back- but he knew she was focused on the performance. She had taught Seraphina how to play- and every time she saw her pupil play, she listened intently and would criticize- but Rucian could only think to hope that with a newer member in the group that she would hold her tongue and show a good first impression.

Calix's heart bled at their songs together. With his eyes closed, he lost himself in the song, emotion filling his face. He let go of his awareness to focus on the notes. They were so perfectly balanced. Here and there, he noticed a few of his own mess ups--everyone is a critic of themselves. His brows pressed together with the sorrow that their song fed them. Slowly, he drew out one last note and cracked his eyes open.
Finished, he corrected his face, devoiding it of emotion, and put his violin down. A smile lifted his face, and he turned to say something to Seraphina, only to see something red out of the corner of his eyes. Shock filled his face, and he snapped his head to see how in the world Marcellus-
No. Someone new. Immediately, he relaxed, only to have his face burn bright red with embarrassment. Oh. Great, someone I just showed emotion to and I don't even know who it is. He swallowed and looked down at the ground, staring at it. With my luck, it's a royal. This is the king's place, how would I not expect others to visit?

Seraphina, eyes closed, took a breath. It had been a while since she played...It was hard to just let herself play like that sometimes, know that if Khalida ever heard her she'd be criticized. She actually thought that one went extremely well!
"Despite your constant mistakes, Seraphina, the song ended up sounding good enough." Khalida said and shook her head as she folded her arms across her chest, closing her pink eyes as she sighed. "You should be thankful you were playing with someone who knew how to drag you to the finish line, otherwise you might of ruined his song drastically."
Seraphina's eyes snapped open and immediatly an annoyed look crossed her face- but she composed herself and rolled her eyes instead. "Hello, Khalida. How nice of you to come and pick out my flaws. Really makes the day that much more special when you come and nag me to death." Seraphina smiled sarcastically and made her way over to Khalida, giving the younger red headed woman a flick to her forehead as she made her way over to Rucian to sit.
"Don't flick my forehead!" Khalida snapped. "Hmmm...I disagree, young one. I think they were both wonderful. Thank you, for playing you two. It was an experience I'm happy to have had." Rucian said calmly as Seraphina sat beside him.
"Hm." Khalida shrugged and looked away from Seraphina, the hint of a blush on her cheeks.
"Oh, Calix this is Khalida- she's a Bondmate to another royal. Khalida, this is Calix, he's a new visitor who will be staying with us for a little while." Seraphina introduced the two, but left it open if Calix wanted to say anything.

Well, she's linked to a royal. Close enough. Swallowing nervously, Calix busied himself with putting away his violin. Anxiety crawled up his throat again and beat his stomach to a pulp. Closing the case, he stood. Calix dipped his head to Khalida, and then forced his eyes open to look at her, "It's a pleasure to meet you," he said, his voice as soft as feathers. "And thank you for your compliments, but I would have to agree with Rucian. I think that Seraphina played very well," Calix gave her a glance. "She might have been the one dragging me."
And then his whole face heated. "Th-The king," he squeaked, looking down at the ground. "I-I agree with the king."

"Nice to meet you.." Khalida mumbled and cast her gaze away, avoiding eye contact completely as she stared at her feet, "You...You play very well."
Seraphina gave a sigh and leaned against Rucian as they talked, chiming in a moment later with a sigh, "If you can't tell, Khalida is the one who taught me how to play. She really likes classical music too- but she really doesn't talk to others often because she's a huge dork." Seraphina teased, and Khalida's face burned with red as she glared towards the blond woman.
"Need I remind you that you took some coaxing as well to bring out your love for classical music?" Rucian reminded and Seraphina shifted in her seat, casting her glance away from him.
"Yeah, yeah, I know." Seraphina muttered.

A smile cracked Calix's lips. He felt more at ease. His mouth opened, and he started to say something, but it got washed away by someone slamming doors open. A tall young man rushed into the room, wearing a curve of a smirk on his lips. He was tall--taller than Calix. He rushed over to Rucian and them. "Rucian, Callaghan's throwing another fit. Get ready, he's coming." Glancing up, the young man saw Calix. "Ohh, who is this cutie?"
"Rucian," a short figure who looked nearly identical to the one who just came in stood at the doorway, anger filling his face, twisting it. "Rucian," the man repeated, storming towards Rucian. Calix immediately started to back away. He could feel the power in this guy too. In fact, he scared him. "Rucian," again, the man repeated. He must of been Callaghan.
"I told you," Drexel waved a hand towards Callaghan. "He's throwing a fit. By the way, hey to you too." He smiled at Khalida.
Callaghan slammed his hands on the table, his light teal eyes burning with deep anger, and even pain. "You have to give me permission--I want to kill him. I'm going to kill him, Rucian. He's-He's-" Callaghan let out a breath, curling his fingers.
"I tried calming him down," Drexel crossed his arms, shaking his head sadly. "He won't listen to me."
"No!" Callaghan snapped, looking back at Drexel. "I won't calm down. He is a complete ass! He deserves to die."
"We never did say that Callaghan wasn't drastic," Drexel smirked and fingered his earring, but his at-ease act was wrong. He felt the pain that had twisted in Callaghan's stomach. It made him want to kill Rorik, too.
