"It's alright, I have the same problem sometimes. He's just...Like that, I guess. He was like that for a while." she shrugged but gave a chuckled at his joke- or what she thought was a joke. "Don't sweat about it, Fledgling. You already hold the title."
Seraphina offered a calm smile in return to his before he face fell to surprise. "Uh, me? No, I don't like to...Just, Seraphina is fine. And being comfortable around us isn't a bad thing- so go ahead and be open. Even I have a difficultly not showing my emotions so...Ohh thank you and yeah. I felt like that the first time I met him too. He was always so..Distant, in a way. He truly was like a king and I felt so little in comparison." her eyes grew glossy again and she shifted her gaze forward, as if lost in thought.
Yes...That was long ago when they had first met. It was a strange meeting- but not one to be remembered now. Perhaps later this fledgling would hear about it. But now was not that time.
"Ahahaha, beheaded? What did you peg us as, merciless monsters? Ahahah, no, no. Cases like yours are rare and so long as you're not an enemy to the king you're treated with hospitality and kindness- especially the younger ones like you. Its not often we get to see the younger portion of our race, so its nice to once in a while. And training is fun too. We should spar sometime!" Seraphina laughed and continued on, missing any shock Calix might have felt, "Seven hundred years of being with one another and you get to be more open around another. And although I would like to sugarcoat things and say I'm sure your next Bondmate will be likeable and nice- I'm not gonna' lie to you like that. Bondmates, while they do keep us alive and connect us to someone, are still people and unique. They're a lot like a deck of cards. There's a whole deck of personalities and sometimes you get lucky or you get an ass pampered poodle. You just gotta take the good with the bad, you know?" Seraphina explained, hoping she was making sense to the younger one. She wasn't quite sure she was, but she hoped so.

"Wait, what do you mean by that? Surely I haven't said it more times than anyone else." In fact, how much had he said in that little bit of time with the king? Probably not that much. Maybe twelve, at most. That was probably pushing it, too. He stayed quiet and listened to her words. A smirk curved his lips at the mention of merciless monsters and he shook his head, but remained quiet. Her last few words surprised a laugh out of him, which made him feel shocked too. It was rare when he laughed. "I hadn't meant to swear. It's funny, even after he's gone, he still gets me so mad, and he's the only person I've ever met to get me mad enough to swear."
Calix gave a nod, smiling a bit to himself. "I get what you mean--oh, and what you said about earlier, about sparing? Sounds good. The only problem is that I'm mostly range." He held up the palm of his hand to show her his mark. "Bow and arrow. When Marcellus tried to teach me more than just shooting stuff," he rolled up a bit of his sleeve so she could see the scar, some of it still disappeared under what was left of his sleeve. "That happened." Rolling his sleeve back down, he gave a shrug. "But, as you can tell, Marcellus was a terrible teacher, which is why we met in the first place." He smirked, and then his stomach gave a growl, which he tried to cover up by clearing his throat.
Blushing, he looked at the ground again. "I, um, don't think I've eaten since yesterday at brunch, so excuse me... I was a little nervous." What an understatement.

Seraphina just smiled and nodded. She understood his point- not that she had lost her Bondmate or anything but she knew the pain of being upset enough to do something-
"Oh, yikes. Well, I can work with that." she shifted her hair off her neck to show the glowing yellow seal at the beginning of her spine, where her shoulders met her neck. "Three stringed whip. I can do ranged or up close." she beamed excitedly, letting her hair fall back in place once Calix had seen the mark.
Hearing his stomach and the reason behind the growl, Seraphina blinked in a min amount of shock. A little nervous? If he hasn't eaten since yesterday a little was not covering it.
"Here, lets get you to the kitchen for a snack then. Dinner won't be till' seven so we got time." she assured and led him to the kitchen, which was massive and had all the fun gadgets, but that was no surprise. " I could get someone to make you something or I could prepare some tea, if you'd like. Tea and snacks are always a good time." she suggested but waved her hand out toward the large kitchen, mostly glancing toward the big refrigerator.

"Actually," Calix held up a finger and walked over to the fridge. He pulled it open and peeked at what was inside. "How about I make a small snack? You can make the tea, and I'll make the snack." He smiled as he pulled out some whip cream, vanilla yogurt, strawberries, raspberries, and blue berries. After dropping them off on the counter, he searched around for two clear cups and put those down, and then he searched around for the types of bread. Sighing in relief when he found some pound cake, he cut off two slices and then he cut each slice up into cubes. After that was done, he quickly washed off some of the berries. Letting them dry, he returned to his pound cake and slipped a few cubes to fill up the bottom of each up, and he plopped some vanilla yogurt and whip cream in each cup. After slicing up the strawberries, he added some fruit and added more yogurt and whip cream. He did this until the cup was full, alternating, and then when it was all done, he cleaned up after himself and put away the extra food.
"There," Calix leaned against the counter. "I wasn't sure if you're hungry, but you can at least try it."

While he made the snack, Seraphina prepared the tea, boiling a pot of fresh tea leaves. As it heated up on the stove she set out the usual things to go along with it- honey, sugar and even milk. While she poured it and waited for it to cool down, she watched Calix work on what he was making with interest.
"It looks good! A little snack wouldn't hurt." she smiled and slid him a cup while she took a cup of his snack and brought out two spoons, handing one to him, "Thanks, Calix." she beamed and offered a friendly smile.
She hoped he would be staying for a while. Not that she didn't like to just spend time with Rucian, but it was nice to have someone else to talk to as well- plus whatever he had made was down right mouthwatering delicious.
"Mmmmm. What is this? It's really good!"

Calix smirked as he ate his own snack, happy that she seemed to enjoy it. "Uhm, I actually don't know the name. I was looking up fun recipes online once, and this was one of the recipes that had pictures." Reading directions? Ugh. He took a sip of the tea, and then he added some honey to see how that would taste. "It's cheap to make, and really easy, so it's right up my alley." Leaning back against the counter, he enjoyed his snack and his tea.
After swallowing another bit of tea, he glanced up at her. "How do you make up your tea? Do you add any of that?" He motioned his hand towards the condiments. "Because the tea has potential. If I kept drinking it bland, I would get use to it." His shoulders lifted and dropped. "Plus, sugar. Who can deny it?"
Callaghan finished his tea and snack, placing both of them aside.

"My tea? I take it with a little bit of sugar and three spoons of honey." Seraphina shrugged and added the listed items to her own cup as she finished her snack as well. "It's very easy to make it how you want- milk gives it more of a creamy taste but I really like it with sugar- I know I can't deny it haha."
Seraphina glanced up at the clock and gave a sigh. "Hmm..We should get out of here before they start making dinner. Come on." she walked back to the door they came through and led him to the hallway. "So. Would you like to go see Rucian now or would you like to get a lay of the land?"

Calix probably swallowed down his anxiety and asked to get to see more around, rather than having to see Rucian so soon. It had seemed that his heart had finally got to a calming pace. Not anymore. Oh well, he couldn't avoid the inevitable.
[SKIP]
And the inevitable seemed to come too soon. Calix sat at the table, staring down at the dinner plate like it was telling him a prophesy that would save his life. Swallowing thickly, he focused on trying to make his stomach not growl before the food came, which would make him die. It was worse enough that Seraphina had heard. For some reason, it would be a thousand times worse if Rucian heard.
Waking up from spacing out, he found that he had been chewing his thumbnail. A deep blush filled his cheeks. Thank all the gods that the servants came in with platters and set them down so Calix could have a choice of which he would like.
The smell of the food one, and his stomach let out a loud, angry gurgle. Calix frowned when he saw one of the servants try and hide a smile. "Thank you, for all of this, m-" Calix cut himself off and swallowed the rest of that my liege down.

Rucian simply gave one slow nod to Calix acknowledging his thanks. It was nothing, honestly, but he knew not many were used to the life he was used to- or had become used to anyways. For a minute he would remember his first moments as the King of the Verengeith and how weird it was for him to accept such a title and duty. Now, however, it was a second nature to him. He had grown used to this life- with all its perks and let downs included. This, was one of the perks. Seeing a young fledgelings face light up with amazement at all that was available to him was interesting in itself- but Rucian remembered the little things Calix had mentioned from earlier that would make this dinner much, much more interesting.
Perhaps it was time to spring a little bonding session upon the young one and Rucian's Bondmate. He could have sworn that even just thinking of it brought on a song he could hear in the future, the breath of a moment passing soon and reaching the final product. One could even consider this a mind game of sorts, but was it so wrong to point out two similarities between two people? Rucian thought not. Knowing his own Bondmate and lover, she would be too stubborn and shy about her interest in classical music to bring it up- and Calix hadn't asked about it either, that Rucian knew of anyways.
Yes. It was a perfect plan.
Placing foods on his own plate to eat nonchalantly, Rucian stuck up further conversation, keeping his gaze of either of the two younger Verengeith in the room. "Wasn't it a violin you said you played, Calix? I would love to hear you play after dinner, if that's alright.."
Rucian dared a quick glance toward Seraphina.
Sitting to his right, she noticed nothing. Instead she had been only listening and picking out her own foods, her purple gaze locked on what she desired to eat. Perfect.
"However, as selfish as it may sound, because my Bondmate refuses to let it be known that she too, plays the violin, I request you two play together."
A loud clang sounded throughout the room and Rucian turned his emotionless eyes toward Seraphina, who had dropped her fork and snapped her head up to look at Rucian, eyes wide with shock.
Before she could say anything, Rucian turned his gaze toward Calix, his voice taking on an unreadable tone as he spoke, "Well, Calix? What do you think?"

Calix started to silently choke on his food. He knew that it might have come at some point, but it being brought up at dinner had surprised him. It only surprised him more that Seraphina played. His head snapped up, just as hers head, but he stared at her instead. "What?" Then, a deep blush filled his cheeks and he glanced over at Rucian.
"Play together? Sure, we would have to see what songs we know. I mean, I could try playing on the spot, but I'm not that good. It might even be interesting to see if two different songs sound good together." Calix glanced over at Seraphina, raising a brow. "We hung out together all day, and you weren't planning on telling me you played the violin, too? How rude." He pretended to be hurt, but that image was shattered as soon as he smirked down at his food and took a bite.
It was nice to know that someone else was shy about something, too.
Right then he realized how confidently he had spoken in front of the king and wondered if he should have muttered a "my liege" or two.
