That voice made the young matriarch flinch, she knew who that voice belonged to. It wasn't that Shetani didn't like her sister, it was just that she hadn't interacted with Imani enough. And as far as she knew, her older sister had gone mad. Shetani sat herself up once again, and briefly glanced at her sister before glancing away. "Hi, Imani.." A pause. "Oh, no, I'm fine actually. The shaman was able to heal a lot of it and the rest was just wrapped up. It was nothing too bad." Another uncertain pause and she awkwardly rubbed the back of her neck. "Why? What else did you here?"

Imani visibly relaxed a bit. Her shaking almost came to a stop. Parting her lips, she glanced up at Shetani, and then glanced away. Now would be a good time to leave, she decided. Even if Shetani asked her question, Imani got all the answers she needed. Tears filled her black eyes and she dropped her eyes to the ground. This had been the first time in a long time that she searched out someone to talk to.
As brave as a rabbit facing a predator, Imani lifted herself a bit more and spoke, "I needed to make sure you were... you're okay... The only other thing I-I heard was that th-there was..." Her voice cracked and splintered. "A strange man." She pushed out the last part, but it brought memories with it. She resisted the urge to curl into a ball and rock herself. Her nails bit into the skin on her palms.

But the younger sister could only watch in gross wonder as Imani struggled to speak. It was easy to see her shake, except Shetani had no idea what was bothering her sister. For all she knew, Imani could just be having another moment. She didn't know how to respond to something like that, let alone try to help. It was too far out of her league and made her uncomfortable. "He wasn't strange. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be here right now." It was then that she tried to change the subject. "Imani, why don't you go lay down and rest or something, okay? Or wait till our mother gets back so you can stay with her." It was sad how she tried getting away from her sister, but such things couldn't be helped. "Just calm down until then."

Imani looked up at Shetani like a puppy would look up at someone who just kicked it. "Calm? Am I not calm?" She stared at her fingers, watching them shake. "O-Oh, that's a dismissal, isn't it?" She looked put down her hands, opening closing her fingers. "Okay.." She slowly lifted herself and reached to run a hand through her messy short hair. Then she looked directly at Shetani, slightly amazed. "He... helped you?" Why was she opening up more conversation? She was dismissed. She took a step away and turned her back to Shetani, pausing again to glance towards her. "U-Um..." She looked down at the floor. "Don't tell Mother I was out.. a-and.." She looked up at Shetani. "I-If you need anything..." Then she shook her head, closing her eyes. "No, you won't. Not from me." A part of her wanted to learn more of this strange man, but she wasn't brave enough to stay. She walked away slowly.

The young leader flinched slightly as she watched Imani practically sulk away. She felt bad, honestly, for sending her sister away. Though there was a smaller, darker ppart of her that scolded Shetani for pitying her sister. Because of her crazy older sister, the younger had inherited a responsibility that was not hers. I should hate you, but I can't.
"Inami," Shetani called out to her older sister. "Come back." Now she needed an excuse. Perhaps, it was no secret, maybe, to her that Imani liked beads. Perhaps, Imani could help her. "When the guards had gone after the man, one of their blades cut off a beaded necklace he was wearing. Do you think you could help me fix it? Please?"

Come back. That was another order, wasn't it? She turned tightly, a whisper of her old self coming back as she looked at Shetani. "Beads?" She reached up to grab the ones on her arm, and then she realized that Shetani wasn't asking for her own. Cautiously, she returned to Shetani's side and then knelt down. Despite these beads belonging to a man, she felt a desire to see the beads and read them.
"If you don't mind, may I see them?" She held out small hands, shaking slightly. At least these beads had nothing to do with him or that. She used beads to shield her from the world around her. And they worked. "Do you remember at all how they use to sit?" She spoke boldly, not a trace of a stutter, so she amended by shying away from Shetani so her half-sister wouldn't lash out at her. "Ch-Chief...." She added, late moment.
How could anyone hate her?

"You don't need to be s formal with me," Shetani said with a slight smile. "If our mother doesn't address me as the leader, then you don't have to." The matriarch scooted closer to her half sister slightly and held out the beads for Imani to see. "I don't really know how they go. I never really noticed them until he tried to grab for them." She then set them down on the floor in front of the two of them. "Do you still think you can fix them up?"

Carefully, Imani took some of the beads in her hands. "I've never seen these types of beads specifically, which means that he comes from a different tribe? But usually all beads have the same basic pattern--hopefully." She examined the largest one in her hand; it was in the soft shape of a triangle, but was an icy blue that could be seen through. "A bit pretty for a male." She laughed softly. She seemed too much like herself. It's alright, after the word male escaped her lips, the beads slipped through her fears and a gasp of fear left her mouth.
With a shaky hand, she covered her hand. Her other hand shakily gathered all the beads that dropped. She clenched her teeth and forced herself to gain back her standing. She reached to give the beads back to Shetani, a sob filling her chest. "I'm sorry, I-I-I really am... if you will excuse me, I-I will g-go get some thread..." She shakily lifted herself and slipped, but she forced herself to stand.
Quickly, she left to ravage her cage for some thread. It wasn't hard. In a matter of moments, if Shadow wants, maybe she returned. And if shadow wants, she can either ignore this next part or not.
Imani walked up to Shetani. Her knees buckled, but she managed to kneel by her sister once again. "S-See? Th-Thread..." But it was too late. She already felt her control slipping from her fingers. Another sob hit her hard, and before she could do much, she grasped out for anything, which maybe just so happened to be a part of Shetani. She hiccuped, and then she muttered an apology while trying to gather herself. She needed some reality to pull her away from the monsters that whispered and nipped her ears.

Shetani could do nothing as she slowly watched the situation go down hill. It all happened so fast and yet she felt as if everything was moving in slow motion. She couldn’t believe how easily her sister changed, like flipping a coin. Again, she had no experience with these kinds of situations.
But the young matriarch couldn’t find the will to lift her arms and shove Imani away. No, she just couldn’t do that. She wasn’t cruel. Instead, Shetani raised a hand and awkwardly tried to comfort Imani by maybe lightly patting her sister’s back. “Come on, Imani, it’s okay. See? There’s nothing here to be scared of..” Little did she know that her older sister probably saw a lot of things that maybe scared her. But the stranger she tried to comfort confused her to no end. “It’s okay.. I guess..”

"Please," Imani breathed, "St-Stop..." She could have been talking to Shetani, or the sudden force of whispers and shouts that filled her ears. "Don't touch me," she whispered. Any normal person, Shetani's hand would have been comforting. But Imani was raped. Her voice was weak and pleading, as it had been at that time. And it was also degrading. The proud part of her, which still thrived and existed within her, hated that hand and Shetani's words because it meant that she needed comfort, that she was weak, and that Shetani knew it.
But at the same time, Imani didn't want Shetani to be afraid of her, or hate her. Tears slid out and she gained her mental standing again. Cloudy apologizes for the whoreness. "I'm so sorry," Imani's voice cracked. "I'm sorry. I'll leave. I'll go away..." Imani let go of Shetani. She was apologizing for her existence. Suicide rate in people with schizophrenia is actually high, just saying. She couldn't brave herself to look up at Shetani, but she whimpered feebly because she ruined her chance to make another friend, someone other than her own mother.
