Ulric hurried behind them as best he could, leaning heavily on Lyra for support. He glanced about at the tall arching hallways. They seemed to sparkle like the clear waters of the streams that lined his home. More like a prison than a home. His eyes gradually fell from the grand halls to the marble floors where he saw his reflection. He paused and peered hard at the morphed figure of himself. He frowned, hating his reflection.
He felt Lyra nudge him and he snapped back to attention. He snorted and continued on, following Lily and her maids. He gazed about the room, absorbing the grandness of the room. He could never really get over that simple factor of awe.
He watched as the maids exited the room and breathed a sigh. As he relaxed his body began to morph, changing back to its original form. However, due to his balance being off he toppled over onto Lyra. Air hissed between his teeth and he bit his lip so hard it drew blood.

Lily sighed as the doors closed and looked to Ulric. A flush of red appeared on her cheeks; she thought it was embarrassing that her maids acted like her two own mothers. Of course, she didn't have at one at least, but even this was ridiculous. Though, she was glad to get rid of them at long last.
She watched Ulric morph back, albeit with a little gasp. He fascinated her to no extent, possibly because they were quite different, it seemed. Ulric certainly didn't grow up in a manor like she did. When he doubled over, she immediately reacted.
The clicking of her pumps echoed in her room as she ran and knelt down next to him. "Are you okay? Do you need my magic?" she asked. Then again, Lily was no professional doctor or nurse. She had no idea what to do other than her magic. How useless she must of felt. "Here, did you want to sit on the bed?"

He heard her approach and looked up. He licked his lips and resisted the urge to spit. He was in the presence of a lady and in the cleanest manor he'd ever seen, albeit it was the only one he had ever been in. He grunted as he readjusted his weight. "No, no, I'm fine. It just caught me off guard. It's been a while since I've actually been forced to shift without my own thoughts of doing it. It's definitely not pleasant."
He felt her eyes on him and he shifted. "Sooo...um..." He glanced down at the floors again. "So, ah, Princess, what exactly...is the plan? Your brother wanted me gone...and well..." He bit his lip again, this time, however, he was careful not to puncture them.

"Oh, don't listen to him," she said. "He's working, so he'll have no time to keep tabs on you or me." She stood up, glancing around. She went to her window, peeking out. Yup, empty out there. She cautiously made her way back to Ulric.
She had been thinking about it the minute he was there. She felt guilty for seeing him as a tool, but it would be her only chance, wouldn't it? Then again, he was injured. How could he run? She didn't know how, but she'd figure something out. "Alright," she said, voice going low.
"I...I'm going to make a request. I don't usually want to play this card but...perhaps it be the favor I'm cashing in for giving you lodging." She smiled weakly. "Will you...take me with you?"
Before he could respond, she blurted out all of her reasons. "I-I may not seem like much, but that's why I have to go! I have to better my skills as a healer, I need to live out of this house." She swallowed thickly. "I promise that I'll stuck by you until you want to part ways, I don't mind! Just get me out of here and I will be forever in your debt."

Keep tabs? There were so many things that could have implied. He felt his cheeks heat up. Surely she wasn't suggesting that. They had just met. Not to mention her brother and father would certainly be inclined to use his pelt as a rug. He shook his head to clear his dirty thoughts. Knock it off brain! She's pretty, sure, but she can't be desperate.
His ears perked up as he heard her voice again. "Hm?" Ulric glanced up at her, making sure to give her his full attention. Even still he couldn't have heard her correctly. "You want me to what!?" His jaw hung open and her could have sworn he was seeing stars before his eyes. He barely managed to catch her reasoning.
Ulric pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to calm himself. "Alright, let me see if I've got this straight. You want me, of all people, to take you with me? Me!? A complete and utter stranger whose already on bad terms with your family and who will be hunted down like a dog, no pun intended, until you are seen back here and my skin is hanging over your brother's bed. That about sounds right?" He glanced up at her, staring straight into her eyes. He sighed. "I mean, never mind the fact that you probably don't even have any experience in the wild. How will we, speaking hypothetically, even carry all of your belongings? Not to mention paying for rooms because I doubt you can just up and walk off with untold pounds of gold, or whatever you use as currency."
Again he sighed, running his hand through his mop of hair. "Look, I want to help you, really I do. But I just don't see how all of this is just going to fall into place even if I agree to get you out of here." He felt Lyra nudge his elbow and he reached behind him and stroked her muzzle.

She was usually a very calm, cool-headed girl. Logic was often her friend, but perhaps she did lose her reasoning for a while. She almost sighed and said "you're right" but instead, she shook her head.
Lily took a deep breath and held her own hands. She carried the grace she grew up with all of those years. "Each morning, I wake up early. I'm served breakfast. Then I start my tutoring. Then lunch. Then horseback riding." She paused, remembering where she was going with this. "I often used to race my brother. While he excelled in business, economics, sciences...you name it...I could always best him at riding."
She glanced at him with a smile. "As for my belongings...I wasn't planning on taking much. Just a sack, really," she said. "Honestly!" She gave him a scoff. "The next time you take me for a light headed princess, you can expect that you will be very clearly mistaken in doing so. Now. The question is, can you ride at all?"

As she listed off, what he assumed to be, her talents or lack thereof he felt his nose scrunch up doubt. None of that would help her survive out in the wild, in his territory. Politics got you nowhere. You couldn't debate with a bear why a kill was yours, he wouldn't care. If he was hungry enough and he wanted what you had, it was best to just move out of his way or else risk becoming his next meal instead of the the carcass at your feet.
Then came the idea of riding. He frowned even more. "What, do you expect to ride me out of here? Sorry to disappoint you Princess, but if you haven't noticed I'm not even in riding condition. Not to mention that I don't even know if you could ride me, even if you figured out how to ride a wolf."
He folded his arms, allowing her to finish. No matter where this went he was just too hesitant to act. As much as he wanted to help, he just couldn't risk it. He understood her plight better than he let on. The feeling of being trapped with no possible way of escape was a terrible feeling to know. He snorted at her remark. Sure she wasn't a ditz, but she sure was ignorant. And ignorance was deadly in the world he came from. He raised and eyebrow at her. "I'm a lowly Omega class wolf who lives in the woods and hunts prey with my own four paws. What do you think?"

If looks could kill, then Lily could have perhaps drowned Ulric in the torrent of the sea in her eyes. If anything now, she was frustrated and almost livid. Still, she kept her composure. She thought a person such as himself would understand. So what? The point of her leaving was to learn. After all, she was sick of people telling her what she could and could not do.
Though, it was true that he was injured and could do no such thing. Fine then. Lily took a deep breath, sighing out her anger in small breaths. "I apologize," she said hanging her head low. "I should have...assumed." She swallowed thickly. "Very well. I will send you on your way promptly then," she said, pacing around. "I can give you some food and gold, as a token of my menial generosity."
She walked toward her closet, whipping off the shawl she wore around her shoulders and taking out her hair pin. "You may escort yourself out. It was very nice to meet you." Her tone didn't sound nice at all, though. Sure, he was injured, but could he at least helped? Instead of telling her "you can't."
Before he left, she told him something. "What do I think about you? It wouldn't matter to me if you were the Alpha or the Omega," she said. "Virtue and pride comes from the heart, not from your rank."

Ulric sighed, more frustrated with himself than Lily. He had just blown his one chance to do something right and he knew it. But he felt a bit better knowing he was keeping her in a better place, even if it was a living hell. The wild was no place for her. It was emotionally, physically, and psychologically draining all at once. It wasn't just something that you could escape into. What it offered in safety it wanted in payment with ten times the interest.
He glanced up at her with a mixed look of shame and guilt. "Look I get it okay? I can tell you're not happy here. And as well as you try to hide it, I can tell you're pissed at me." He forced himself to stand, keeping his eyes on her the whole time. He couldn't help but smirk at the fact that he read her so easily. "You're an open book, Princess. Someone like you...just wouldn't survive."
He felt tears sting his eyes as images of his past flashed before them. A little girl with wild untamed hair, his favorite pup. Mimi. He saw her as she was. Before her ordeal. Before she was, in a way, corrupted. Her innocence stolen from her and her body wrecked with bruises. The very light he had come to love had vanished from her eyes. And every day he blamed himself, for not stopping it. She needed his help and all he did was follow orders.
"I couldn't bear to watch someone else be..." He swallowed, struggling to find the word. "corrupted because of me. It would break me, even more than I am now." Without looking up he turned to go. He wanted to say more but all he managed was a lame thanks. "Thank you, for everything. I'll...be going then."
